254 Students of M.U.S.T. Granted Scholarships and Grant Awards

Macau University of Science and Technology held the Scholarship and Grant Awards Presentation Ceremony at Library building N101 on November 21, 2019. At the Ceremony, 22 representatives from the scholarship-providing institutions gave out altogether 28 scholarships and grant awards to 254 excellent students of the University.

President Liu Liang gave a speech

President Liu Liang gave a speech at the ceremony. He noted that since it was founded in March of 2000, M.U.S.T. has been growing fast. It has been ranked as a Top 100 University in the Shanghai Rankings’ University Rankings in Greater China for eight consecutive years, and was recently ranked as a Top 300 University in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020. The frog-leaping progress and development of M.U.S.T. has become a significant mark for the fast development of the higher education sector in Macao since it returned to the motherland. It has embodied the unique strengths of developing high quality higher education under the framework of the One Country Two Systems policy. President Liu mentioned, with the implementation of the national Belt & Road initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area strategy come unprecedented historic opportunities for the development of Macao, providing a significant platform for the youth to fulfill their personal life values and give back to the society. He hoped that while concentrating on pursuing academic success, the students also put forth efforts to cultivate dreams, shape characters and foster abilities to innovate, thus becoming capable youths with humility, ambition and commitment.

Student representative of the award winners Yang Yingyi gave a thank-you speech, where she thanked the scholar-providing institutions for recognizing the students’ hard work and accomplishments. She would forever bear in heart the care of the scholar-providing organizations to the students of M.U.S.T. and would pass on the same spirit to other youths to encourage and assist them and give back to the society together. Yang Yingyi also shared her insights in studies, and called for the students to act on the principles of the university motto, “Dedication to practical studies, enhancement of knowledge, ability and quality”, cherish each opportunity presented to Macao for its continuous stability and prosperous growth under the leadership of the motherland, uphold their patriotic love for the motherland and Macao, seek progress and greater knowledge, work hard and contribute their part to the future national development.

The Scholarship and Grant Awards Presentation Ceremony aims to reward students who have achieved excellent academic grades. Representatives of the scholarship-providing institutions give out prizes to scholarship winners as a token of recognition and affirmation, empowering the students to seek continuous progress in academics and in the meantime stimulating other students to strive harder to do better in studies, thus having the overall academic achievements improved at the University. Also conferred at the Ceremony were various awards of the University, including Outstanding Cultural and Academic Award, Outstanding Community Service Award, Outstanding Sports Award, and Student Handbook Cover Design Competition Award, in hope of motivating students to achieve all-round development on top of attainment of professional knowledge.

This year was the first year for MGM Grand Paradise Ltd. to confer scholarships to M.U.S.T. students. As a result, President Liu Liang conferred Certificates of Appreciation to Mr. Francis Tan, Vice President of Learning & Talent Management of MGM Grand Paradise Ltd., to thank the company for its support to M.U.S.T.

Following the award-presentation ceremony, the guests and the award-winning students took photos and attended a cocktail party held at the Seasons Training Restaurant of the University.
