Olympic Gold Medalists Visit to Macao – Vitality March 2019
Visit to Macau University of Science and Technology Held Successfully

In the spirit of marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, organized by the Sports Olympic Committee of Macau, China, and the Sports Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, held by the Youth Committee of the Sports Olympic Committee of Macau, China, and co-organized by the Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation, the “Olympic Gold Medalists Visit to Macao – Vitality March 2019” – Visit to Macau University of Science and Technology was held successfully at the N101 auditorium of the University in the afternoon of December 7. Chairman Yao Ming of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) and 7 outstanding gold medalists toured M.U.S.T. to engage in close-distance interactions with the university students. The athletes shared insights on their respective sports life, spread messages on the benefits of sports events on health and well-being, brought sportsmanship to the campus and disseminated upright and positive life values. The athletes were warmly welcomed by the university teachers and students; approximately 500 MUSTers took part in the event.

The athletes who were invited to join the tour to M.U.S.T. included Chairman of CBA Yao Ming, Gymnastics Gold Medalist Li Xiaopeng and Li Shanshan, Diving Gold Medalist Wu Minxia and Chen Ruolin, Swimming Athlete Fu Yuanhui, Badminton Gold Medalist Fu Haifeng, and Short Track Speed Skating Gold Medalist Li Jianrou.

Guests attending the event included Mr. Ma Chi Seng, Director of the Youth Committee of the Sports Olympic Committee of Macau, China, and Committee Members Ma Sio Cheong and Ho Wai Kun, Madam Chu Wai Man, Administrative Officer of the Macao Judiciary Police Department, Vice President Tong Ka Lok of Macau University of Science and Technology, University Council Member Chen Jimin, Director Chiang Siu ling of the Culture and Sports Development Office of M.U.S.T., and Head of Student Affairs Office Ms. Wong Ka Weng.

The event opened with Vice President Tong Ka Lok and University Council Member Chen Jimin extending warm welcomes to the visiting athletes. The two parties exchanged gift souvenirs. Chairman Yao Ming of CBA represented the athletes to gift the University an autographed national team shirt as a token of thanks.

At the event, the athletes responded to questions from the students, shared their life experiences and insights on life and career, and encouraged the students to pursue their dreams, embody sportsmanship in their studies and future careers, embrace challenges, meet up with difficulties with a persistent and perseverant attitude, and strive hard in the race field of life. The gold medalists have earned honor for our nation and made contributions to elevate the national standard of competitive sports, which has greatly stimulated the patriotism of the students for the country and for Macao empowering them to look up to the gold medalists as role models, take up their missions bestowed by the new era, and make their contributions for the development of the mother nation and Macao.
