Online Workshop “Smart tourism: concept and applications” by Prof. Rob Law

The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) held its 4th Summer Research Seminar Series on June 26th, 2020. Professor Rob Law was invited to give a lecture, and the workshop was attended by FHTM Program Director Zhang Yang and nearly 100 FHTM teachers and postgraduate students. This workshop was sponsored by Macao Foundation.

Professor Law is from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is one of the top researchers and professor at the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. He is an expert in hospitality related areas including information technology, Internet and e-commerce, modeling and forecasting.

In this workshop, Professor Law discussed how to take advantage of smart technology to develop sustainable tourism. He pointed out that creating a higher quality of tourism environment and smart new services for tourists, and improving competitiveness in the tourism market, will become the emphasis of the global tourism industry.

FHTM teachers and students enthusiastically questioned and discussed the thematic. From this workshop, FHTM doctoral student Livia Lei acknowledged that stronger collaboration within the government, associations and other relevant companies, encourage information and data sharing, and are necessary for smart tourism development. Another doctoral student Summer Xia said that it is important to regard smart tourism as a significant business strategy and develop smart tourism APPs or mini programs.
