Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) Online Workshop “Residents Issues in Destination Community” by Prof. Lin Derong FHTM teachers and students participated in engaging discussion

The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) held its 5th Summer Research Seminar Series on June 30th, 2020. Prof. Lin Derong, Xiamen University was invited to give a lecture, and the workshop was attended by FHTM Dean Prof. Ben K Goh, Program Director Zhang Yang and nearly 100 FHTM teachers and postgraduate students. This workshop was sponsored by Macao Foundation.

Prof. Lin Derong

Lin Derong is a professor in the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Xiamen University. He is also a member of the China National MTA Education Supervisory Committee (MTA) and a member of the Higher Education Tourism Management Teaching Committee of the Ministry of Education. Prof. Lin's main research areas are tourism enterprise management, tourism market and consumer behavior.

FHTM Teachers and Students Interacted by Video with Guest Speaker

In this workshop, Prof. Lin analyzed the tourism development and the interest relations with community residents and he proposed coping strategies. He pointed out that in order to achieve sustainable tourism, the interests between tourism development and local residents must be properly managed and planned. In this workshop, FHTM teachers and students participated in engaging discussion and some students asked Prof. Lin how to mitigate the conflict between residents and tourists. Prof. Lin patiently explained the corresponding measures from the aspects of resources and environment, economic interests and living habits for resolving students’ perplexities.
