“Qualitative Tourism Research” Held at FHTM - Over 100 Teachers and Students Attended

Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management (FHTM) Academic Seminar Series 2nd workshop, entitled “Qualitative Tourism Research”, was held on 22nd October, 2020 at M.U.S.T. Prof. Noel B. Salazar from University of Leuven, Belgium was invited to give a talk. The workshop was attended by more than 100 FHTM teachers and postgraduate students, including FHTM Program Director Associate Professor Dr. Zhang Yang. This workshop was sponsored by the Macao Foundation.

Professor Noel B. Salazar is the research professor of Cultural Mobilities Research at the University of Leuven in Belgium. He is mainly engaged in tourism and travel anthropology research in Indonesia, Tanzania, Chile, and Belgium, and serves as Consultant for UNESCO and UNWTO, among others.

Professor Noel B. Salazar shared his views on qualitative and quantitative research methodologies based on his research case in Tanzania. He states that there are no good or bad research methodologies, but that the choice of research methodologies depends on the research questions. For bigger research projects, mixed-methods can be selected. Teachers and students of FHTM actively participated in the discussion and exchanges in this academic seminar, and benefited from Professor Salazar knowledge and insight.
