On 19 December 2020, Assistant Professor Dr. Hu Xiao of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management of Macau University of Science and Technology, led a group of undergraduate students on a visit to the Hengqin New Area of Zhuhai, which was organized by the Alliance for Developing Macao into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tourism Education and Training Base. This event covered the Hengqin Gallery, the Hengqin Branch of the Family Service Centre of General Union of Neighborhood Association (UGAMM), the Lionsgate Entertainment World at Novotown, and the Hengqin Sumlodol Camping Town. The University of Macau, Macau Institution of Tourism Studies, and other institutions at Macao also participated in this event.
During the visit, the students were deeply impressed by the fast-growing of Hengqin, which was demonstrated by the Gallery. At a later stage, the students witnessed the wide variety of community services offered by the UGAMM. At the Novotown, the students experienced the indoor interactive experience center of the Lionsgate.
The students also attended a workshop on the Hengqin Talents Program. The event organizer encouraged the students to actively seek employment and internship opportunities in the tourism industry of Hengqin. Eventually, the students visited the Camping Town of Sumlodal and they attended an outward bound program at the Recreational Park of Sumlodol.
The students said that this visit provided them the opportunity to enrich their understanding of the interaction between the local economy and tourism development. Most importantly, this journey helped to guide the students with their future career development.
