M.U.S.T at the TOP 1% of ESI with the subject of Computer Science

On July 8th, 2021 Clarivate Analytics released the latest issue of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), showing that M.U.S.T. has entered the TOP 1% with the subject of Computer Science. This is the third subject to enter the TOP 1% of ESI this year after Molecular Biology & Genetics, and Pharmacology & Toxicology. Prior to this, the Computer Science of M.U.S.T. was ranked 101-125 in the 2021 THE World University Rankings by Subject. These two rankings place M.U.S.T.’s Computer Science among the international high-level disciplines.

To date, four disciplines of M.U.S.T. have entered the TOP 1% of ESI, the other three being: Engineering, Molecular Biology & Genetics, and Pharmacology & Toxicology.

M.U.S.T. gives great importance to the Computer Science discipline design and progress. By adhering to present-day national needs and to what Macao has to offer in the field of Information Technology, the University is training a new generation of experts on the field, emphasizing reliable theoretical foundations and practical training.

In addition to the Faculty of Information Technology, the Macao Institute of Systems Engineering, the Macao Institute of Smart City, and the International Institute of Next Generation Internet, M.U.S.T. also successfully established several institutes such as the Technology Innovation Centre for Next Generation Internet, the Macao Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Systems Engineering, the Innovation Center for Intelligent Robotics Technologies, and the Macao Center for Mathematical Sciences.

These platforms are expected to consolidate the scientific research foundation through the establishment of advanced knowledge and technical platforms, giving full impact to the advantages of scientific research, and striving to build IT talents and knowledge resource reserves, focusing on industrial evolution, and contributing to the country and the Greater Bay Area sustainable headway ushering a new momentum, and providing strong opportunities.

ESI is a basic analysis and evaluation tool for measuring scientific research performance and tracking scientific development trends. It is based on the global data collected by Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science (SCIE/SSCI). The quantitative analysis database established by more than 12,000 academic journals and 12 million document records, is one of the most important evaluation index tools commonly used to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions, and countries/regions in the world today.
