A Hundred Cultural Scholars Meet in Macau to Discuss the Diversity, Inclusiveness, and Development of Multiculturalism

Macau Forum (2013) has grandly opened at the Conference Room Naples of the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel at 11 a.m. on March 26th; the forum is sponsored by Macau Foundation and held by Macau University of Science and Technology. The guests of honour who have attended the opening ceremony include Mr. Ho Hau-wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Xu Jia Lu, Vice Chairman of the 9th and 10th Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Mr. Hao Ping, Vice Minister of Ministry of Education of the P.R.C., Mr. Cheong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao S.A.R, Mr. Liu Chak Wan, Chancellor of Macau University of Science and Technology, and others.

Chair Professor Liu Liang, President of Macau University of Science and Technology delivered a welcome speech and thanked the Macao S.A.R. government, the Ministry of Education of the P.R.C., the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., the office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in Macao S.A.R., the scholars, the experts, and prominent community members for their presence. He pointed out that the “China Dream” that has been addressed for many times by Chairman Xi Jin Ping at the closing ceremony of the Twelfth National People’s Congress is going to become the major theme for contemporary China and that the excellent Chinese culture of the Chinese nation is going to become a strong tie connecting the core meanings of “China Dream” and driving force for the realization of “China Dream”. He further acclaimed that the opening of Macau Forum has invited many renowned cultural researchers, university presidents, and young learners who will conduct extensive and profound discussions and make insightful interpretations on the topic of multiculturalism: legacy and innovation; this rightly shows the wisdoms and sources of strengths that are greatly needed to join our hands and minds to realize the “China Dream”. As the host of the forum, Macau University of Science and Technology has become the youngest one among the top universities in the Greater China. He affirmed that the university is going to continue to commit to base itself on teaching and research, to welcome talents, to hold tight to the two keys: “quality” and “innovation”, to devote to high-quality education and research, to serve the community, to succeed culture, to realize its academic ideals, and to carry out its educational missions. In addition, Mr. Sou Chio Fai, Director of Tertiary Education Services Office of the Government of the Macao S.A.R. and Mr. Hao Ping, Vice Minister of Ministry of Education of the P.R.C. addressed at the opening ceremony respectively.

The first Macau Forum has had the attendance of almost one hundred well known cultural scholars and university presidents to discuss multiculturalism: diversity, inclusiveness, and innovation. Held separately and simultaneously in the Venetians and MUST, the forum is going to center around three sub-topics: Multiculturalism Study, Multiculturalism and Macau’s Development, and Multiculturalism: Mission of the Heirs. More than 50 scholars are going to present their researches and the forum is scheduled to close on March 27th. The forum is co-organized by Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao S.A.R., China Education Association for International Exchange, and Beijing Forum, supported by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs) of Ministry of Education of the P.R.C. and Tertiary Education Services Office of Macao S.A.R., and covered by press institutions such as: TDM, Lotus TV, Macau Daily, and Ta Kung Pao.
