Engagement of Professor Ah Chung Tsoi as 111 Base Long Term Senior Visiting Scientist Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

On 3rd June, Professor Ah Chung Tsoi, Dean, Faculty of Information Technology, was engaged as a senior long term visiting scientist of the Advanced Intelligence and Network Services Base (111Base) in Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT). The conferring ceremony took place in the Conference Room 501 in the Administration Building of BUPT. The Executive Director of the Advanced Intelligence and Network Services Base (111 Base), Vice Rector Professor Guo Jun, attended the ceremony and conferred the certificate to Professor Tsoi, accompanied by Associate Professor J Q Li, Faculty of Information Technology, Macau University of Science and Technology. The Director of Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, Ms C Ren, Director of Center for Teaching Development, Professor L Zhang, Secretary of Advanced Intelligence and Network Services and Innovation Base, Professor X Wang, Vice Dean of School of Information and Communication Engineering, Professor J Yang, and Associate Professor G Chen, Dr K Yu, and some postgraduate students from the School of Information and Communication Engineering, also attended the conferring ceremony.

The conferring ceremony was presided by Professor X Wang, Advanced Intelligence and Network Services Innovation Base. Professor Guo Jun represented Advanced Intelligence and Network Services Innovation Base, and gave a speech, congratulating Professor Tsoi for the honour of being engaged as a senior long term visiting scientist, and wish that both parties will have a good collaborative research endeavour. Professor X Wang gave a short presentation of the career achievements of Professor Tsoi. Then Professor Guo Jun conferred the certificate of engagement, and affixed the University pin as a mark of recognition of Professor Tsoi’s engagement. Professor Tsoi thanked BUPT for conferring such an honour on him. Then, Professor Tsoi gave a technical talk entitled “Web Spam Detection using Machine Learning Techniques”. This was welcomed by all those present in the ceremony and they responded with an excellent question and answer session afterwards, when Professor Tsoi gave more details about the work that he presented.
