“Ambassadorial Lecture Series I” Session II Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Li Jin Zhang, talked about “Prospects of China and Latin American Countries”

Lecture Session II Ambassador Li Jinzhang

  Session Two of “Ambassadorial Lecture Series I” sponsored by the Macau Foundation was held at the Macau University of Science and Technology Room N101 on October 12th, 2013.

  Mr. Li Jin Zhang, former Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of China, and Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, was invited as the guest speaker. Since 1976, Ambassador Li Jin Zhang served as the First Secretary at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Nicaragua, Counselor at the Chinese Embassy to the Republic of Cuba, and Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Latin America Division. In 2001, he served as the Chinese Ambassador to Mexico. Two years later, the Ambassador returned to China and served as the Assistant Minister. He was promoted to be Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of China in 2006. Mr. Li Jin Zhang has been the Chinese Ambassador to Brazil since 2012.

  In the lecture, Ambassador Li Jin Zhang introduced the social, cultural, economic and other aspects of the current situation and characteristics of Brazil and analyzed the existing problems of its economic development to students. Ambassador Li Jin Zhang pointed to China and Brazil as economic partners as well as members of BRIC; the two countries need to further deepen cooperation, especially with regard to infrastucture construction, Brazil needs the investment and collaboration from Chinese Enterprises.

  At the end of the students’ question-and-answer sessions, Ambassador Li Jin Zhang encouraged the students to approach foreign cultures with a relaxed, tolerant, open, equitable and multi-angle attitude, expand their cultural horizons and international perspectives. In strengthening their professional knowledge, they should also have more contact and understanding of foreign cultural knowledge.
