Faculty of Health Sciences have completed the first stage of “Practical Endoscopy Training Course”

The first “Practical Endoscopy Training Course” is held by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Macau University of Science and Technology. This course is for the physicians who are lack of experience in Basic Endoscopy, Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy. The course hold on July 26 named “Narrow Band Imaging Workshop” put an end to the first stage of training. The aim of this course is to help the trainees to apply the skills they learned from the simulation training course to real daily work, using more and more refined techniques to the diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases.

Dr. Edward Lai, Chief of surgery department of University Hospital and the president of Macau Society of Digestive Endoscopy said that this course is divided by several parts, including simulation training program, observation and hands-on training stages. The biggest limitation is the number of cases which requires more time to complete.

Our objective is to enhance the quality and safety of upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy training in the region. The faculty established a comprehensive series of theoretical, hands-on simulation and standardized endoscopy training courses, conducted by high quality trained supervisors both from Hong Kong and Macau. Standards have been set for individual physicians and for the conduct of quality training in endoscopy. Targeted at physician and surgeon trainees, the faculty provides local support for the endoscopy workforce to ensure they have the skills, resources and motivation necessary to deliver high quality patient care here in Macau.
