Prof. Zhang Shu Guang, Senior Vice President of MUST, Together with Vice President Prof. Chen Xi Met the Scholarship Winning Freshmen and Those from Foreign Countries

Prof. Zhang Shu Guang, senior vice president of MUST, together with vice president Prof. Chen Xi met and talked with some freshmen from Mainland China who just won the scholarships in the university and those from foreign countries.

Freshmen who met and talked with Prof. Chen Xi includes those who won Scholarship for Children of Workers in the Space Industry, Huaxia Oasis Fellowship, Macau Foundation Scholarship in Portuguese-Speaking Areas and Scholarship for Asian International Students. Besides the scholarship winners, there were also new international students in the meeting. During the meeting, the students expressed their expectation to study in Macau and plans for new life in the university. A student from Pakistan said that even though this was the first time he left his family and studied in Macau, it was also a chance for him to learn to be independent with dialectical thought, admitting that it was a wise choice to pick this university. Another student looked forward to his future after graduation and being the pride of his family. Prof. Chen Xi expressed hope for the freshmen, encouraged them to study hard, make good use of the library and other learning resources, and take part in different extracurricular activities to broaden their horizons. Only if they are thankful and humble, but not arrogant and complacent, can they lead the way to success. Other participants including Ms. Wong Ka Weng, head of Student Affairs Office, Ms. Lei Pou Cheng, assistant administrative officer in University International College who is responsible for Student Exchange Programs and Ms. Cheong Pui San from Student Affairs Office.

Prof. Zhang Shu Guang, senior vice president of MUST, met and talked with some freshmen from Mainland China who just won the scholarships in the university. All of them came from different provinces of China and had outstanding performance in the National Higher Education Entrance Examination with the scores above the top tier through the merit-based enrollment. So they have acquired the first grade, second grade and third grade scholarship respectively.

At the start of the meeting, students expressed their prospects for the incoming new life in the university. One student of School of Business said he looked forward to have more internship opportunities to fulfill the conception of theories and practice, while other student expressed that they are still in the process of coping with Macau’s living tempo. Prof. Zhang Shu Guang expressed his hope to the freshmen that he encourage them to enhance self-study capacity, take part in different extracurricular activities and local community service to develop and cultivate their self-cognition and interest. He also hoped them to make their career planning earlier as well as enjoying the wonderful university time. Administrative Officer (Concurrent Appointment: Head of Admission Office) Mr. Kwong Ying Wa as well as Head of Academic Office Ms. Chu Oi Mei attended the meeting.

As the meeting progressed in a joyful atmosphere, it helped to strengthen the communication among the freshmen, and the interaction between the teachers and students.
