Social Service Team of Macau University of Science and Technology took part in the fifty-first Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar

The fifty-first ‘Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar’ had been successfully held from 7th to 8th November 2020 at Nautical Centre Nam Van lake. Social Service Team, which was supervised by the Student Affairs Office of MUST, dispatched nearly 50 members to arrange the booth for fund.

The theme of the bazaar is ‘Emerging from Darkness, Emerging Love’. It aims at raising money for charity services of Caritas Macau, which will support the local poor family, the senior, the weak and patients. It helps to enhance the new social service as well as broaden the area it relates to. Moreover, it contributes to fighting the pandemic and helps more people in need. There are 85 booths in total, which are set by government departments, social societies, schools, volunteer teams, enterprises and service units of Caritas Macau. It is the fourth time that Social Service Team of MUST has took part in the charity bazaar. With more experience, the efficiency of operating the booth has obviously been improved. This year, Social Service Team of MUST presents an elaborate game called ‘Laugh off your big teeth’. Various prizes and enthusiasm of members draw many citizens for joining the game. Team members actively involve in the game and interact with those citizens.

As the two-day activity finished, team member Chen Jian said that the designation of this activity was warm and reasonable, which helped to well combine the booth and citizens. It was the key element of holding the activity successfully. He also mentioned that the process of standing out there welcoming those citizens helped him overcome the fright of speaking in front of crowd. He considered it as a big step of socialization. Team member Kong Dezheng said that he realized that the government of Macau kept paying attention to the public service activities and focused on them. He hoped that more and more people could spare their effort in them. This activity helps team members know more about public benefit activities and provides them a good chance to involve in the Macau society.

Caritas Macau at present has more than 60 service units, including settling senior people, supporting health recovery, families, children, teenagers, communities, hotline guidance, short-term food supply, service for homeless people, helping people return to society, barrier-free travel and service for non-resident workers.
