中國工程院院士、澳門科技大學校長、中藥質量研究國家重點實驗室主任劉良講座教授榮膺美國國家發明家研究院（The National Academy of Inventors, NAI）院士殊榮（NAI Fellow）。美國國家發明家研究院院士是美國國家發明家研究院（NAI）授予在全球範圍內大學或非盈利組織機構從事學術研究工作的發明家之最高榮譽，藉以表彰他們的發明創造對提升人類生活品質、促進經濟發展及社會福祉所做出的傑出貢獻。自NAI於2010年成立以來，共為1228名著名發明家頒授了美國國家發明家研究院院士榮譽，他們來自全球逾250所著名大學和非盈利研究機構，總共持有逾41,500項美國發明專利。
美國國家發明家研究院院士每年評選一次，2019年度共有168位著名發明家獲得嘉許，包括4名諾貝爾獎得者，6人美國國家科技創新獎章或美國國家科學獎章得主，他們來自全球135間研究型大學和非牟利研究機構，共擁有3500項美國專利，研究涵蓋了神經行爲科學、園藝學、光子學、傳統醫學等一系列的學科。發明家院士們將於2020年4月11日在美國亞利桑那州費尼克斯赫德博物館舉行的第九届美國國家發明家研究院年度會議中就任。
美國國家發明家研究院主席Paul R. Sanberg教授指出：“今年入選的發明家院士的研究水準給我留下了深刻的印象，他們在各自的領域都備受尊敬。他們研究發明的範圍和廣度令人震撼，其研究成果正影響著全世界走向一個科學、技術及創造的全新時代。”
劉良教授是2019年港澳地區唯一獲頒美國國家發明家研究院院士的學者。劉教授是知名的中醫藥專家，在中醫診療風濕病和抗關節炎新藥研究等領域成果豐碩，已在SCI學術期刊發表學術論文逾230篇，包括Science和Nature增刊、Nature Medicine、Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases、Microbiome 等國際著名期刊，並以第一發明人獲國際專利27項。劉教授在中醫診療風濕病研究領域取得了多項突破性成果，填補了多項國際空白，並於2019年11月當選中國工程院院士。劉教授表示：本人獲得此國際殊榮再次說明傳統中醫藥具有極强的科技創新和發明創造潛力，只要充分集成並應用好多學科結合的先進技術與方法開展中醫藥自主創新和原始創新研究，完全能够做出影響世界並獲得世界高度認同的一流成果，中醫藥走向世界、服務全人類前景光明。
