Chef from Asian 50 Best Restaurants Sharing Educational Session (2)

The renowned Dutch Chef Richard Ekkebus of Asian 50 Best Restaurants 2019 gave a talk to the Food and Beverage Management Major students at Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) on March 25th, 2019. This event has provided students a great opportunity to learn from a highly respected chef-restaurateur through interaction about how to gain top chef skills and inject creativity and innovation into the food and beverage industry.

This sharing session was organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and invited guests included MGTO representatives, Mr. Raoul Steinbach, Director of Amber Restaurant & Bar, and Mr. William Drew, Group Editor of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Prof. Lin Zhijun, Vice President of M.U.S.T. delivered a welcome speech and Ms. Amy Chu, Vice Dean of FHTM, together with more than 80 teachers and students attended the event.

During the talk, Chef Ekkebus shared how he introduced his cuisine through traveling into Japan and then into Hong Kong, and now into Macao. By participating in this sharing session, students have learnt a lot from Chef Ekkebus and have broadened their perspectives and enriched their knowledge of the food and beverage industry.

Chef Richard Ekkebus is the director of Amber Restaurant, a famous restaurant which was awarded two Michelin Stars in 2009, located at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong. Amber has recently been closed for renovation (since December 2018) and will reopen in May this year. This has provided a great opportunity for Chef Ekkebus to share with the students how he and his team have approached the reinvention of the restaurant – the menu, the interiors, the service style, the inspiration, the entire package.
