Faculty of Information Technology of Macau University of Science and Technology held a seminar at Room 201, Block A on May 16th, 2017. The head of Siemens City IT Solutions Mr Klaus Heidinger and the President and CEO of Siemens Ltd.,Hong Kong & Macao Mr Eric Chong were the invited speaker. Around 20 faculty members attended the seminar, including the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology Prof. Zhang Du and the Dean of the Macau Environmental Research Institute Prof. Wang Zhishi.
In the seminar, Mr. Chong, gave us a brief introduction to Siemens Ltd.,Hong Kong & Macao. Then as the developer of CyPT and CyPT Air, Mr Heidinger explained how CyPT Air uses big data to forecast air quality in a city and there is a potential use case for our proposed Smart City Digital Hub. City Performance Tool - Air (CyPT Air) is a dynamic simulation tool which studies a series of aspects from energy, transport and industry by assessing the quantified technology impact of improving air quality and its investment. The development of CyPT Air is aiming to provide tailored made technology roadmap for different cities in improving air quality, more importantly, without compromising its economic development.
As a strategic tool targeting at both long-term and short-term decisions on infrastructure choices, Siemens is now combining the CyPT Air capabilities with air pollution forecasting methods based on weather and traffic data to align the long-term perspective with the short-term and immediate measures to achieve air quality limits.
Mr. Klaus Heidinger’s Biography:
Klaus Heidinger is the head of Siemens City IT Solutions within the Global Center of Competence Cities in London. This role involves working with City Leadership across the globe and providing methodologies and tools such as the City Performance Tool to support cities to meet their economic, social and environmental targets.
Prior to his present position, Klaus was the head of the Global Center for City Management based in Singapore and before that he was heading the delivery for IT Services in Rome, Italy for the Siemens IT Business. Before his career in Rome, Klaus was the managing director for a Siemens subsidiary in Vienna, Austria, with a strong focus in the public sector for the Austrian employment service agency.
Mr. Eric Chong’s Biography:
Mr. Eric Chong currently serves as President & CEO of Siemens Ltd., Hong Kong & Macao since 2011. Mr. Chong is leading the overall strategy in the areas of electrification, automation and digitalization and delivering on infrastructure projects and sustainable solutions in the field of energy, healthcare, buildings, power distribution and industry for Hong Kong and Macao.
Siemens is a global technology powerhouse with almost 170 years of history. The company is one of the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient technologies and is a pioneer in infrastructure solutions as well as automation, drive and software solutions for industry.
Mr. Chong is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Business Environment Council (BEC) and is serving as the Chair of Climate Change Business Forum, an advisory group under BEC dedicated to raising awareness of Climate Change among businesses. He is also member of the HKTDC Electronics / Electrical Appliances Industries Advisory Committee. As a senior executive for more than 20 years, Mr. Chong has worked at various countries in Asia, including 10 years in China.
Mr. Chong started his career in Singapore with GEC Plc of UK before joining Siemens in North East Asia region. He received his tertiary education in Electronics Engineering and Business Administration and he holds a MBA from Henley Management College, UK.
