PhD students at MUST Won the 1st Prize in the Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling

On December 18, 2023, the award ceremony and 20th anniversary celebration of the "Huawei Cup" Chinese Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) were held at Southeast University. The China Postgraduate MCM is one of the theme competitions of the “China Postgraduate Innovation & Practice Competitions” (CPIPC) jointly hosted by the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center. Under the guidance of Prof. CAI Zhanchuan, PhD students LI Jiayang, YUAN Jieyu, and SUN Fangli from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering, were honored with the 1st prize. Meanwhile, postgraduate students at MUST won three 2nd and three 3rd prizes, respectively. This competition is the largest and most influential national postgraduate discipline competition in China, accessible to all postgraduate students nationwide. After 20 years, the sponsoring organization returned to its founding institution, Southeast University. In total, 19,898 teams from 507 postgraduate institutions across international and provincial, autonomous regional, directly controlled municipal, and special administrative regions participated successfully.

Prof. CAI Zhanchuan won the "Outstanding Individual" award for his remarkable contributions to the 20th Chinese Postgraduate MCM. Throughout the conference, Prof. CAI Zhanchuan and PhD student Li Jiayang were invited to participate in Empowering Postgraduate Education for High-quality Development Symposium in the Chinese Postgraduate MCM. Li Jiayang was honored with the "Mathematical Modeling Talent" certificate during the symposium.

The Macau University of Science and Technology commits to the principle of attaching equal importance to teaching and research, cultivates a campus spirit of “Harmonious Perfection and Continuous Innovation”, makes active efforts in the exploration of the characteristic educational mode of postgraduate students, provides incentives and support for graduate students to take part in the CPIPC. Prof. CAI Zhanchuan, Asst. Prof. LAN Ting, and Asst. Prof. YE Ben from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering, have been actively organizing and guiding graduate students to participate in the China Postgraduate MCM, and conducted pre-competition counseling work to improve the level of postgraduate students.
