Dr. Manson Fok received the Gusi Peace Prize for Humanitarianism

Dr. Manson Fok, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Macau University of Science and Technology, Adjunct Professor of the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, President of Sino-Luso International Medical Forums, Chairman of Avalon BioMedical Management, Chairman of Pedder Clinics and Hong Kong Specialists Consortium, Honorary Fellow at the Chinese College of Surgeons, and Executive & Trust Committee Member of the Macau Henry Fok Foundation, has been awarded the 2014 Gusi Peace Prize in Humanitarianism for his remarkable contributions to medical education, healthcare delivery and cross-border biotechnology developments that acts as a bridge both within Asia and across continents.

The Gusi Peace Prize is Asia’s foremost awarding body that is recognized by the United Nations along with the Nobel Peace Prize. It is a charitable foundation whose main objective is to give proper recognition through the conferment of awards of excellence and distinction to individuals worldwide who are exemplars of society or who contribute to the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity.
At the award ceremony held in Manila on 26 November 2014, Dr. Fok joined this year’s 16 other international GUSI Laureates from around the world. Former Presidents, key scientists and humanitarians from United States, Austria, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Lithuania, Lativa, Poland, Congo and Philippines will also be laureates this year. Dr. Fok will receive this award as the sole representative of the People’s Republic of China.

Announcement of the award was welcomed with enthusiasm across Macau University of Science and Technology.

Chair Professor Liu Liang, President of the Macau University of Science and Technology, said: “Dr. Manson Fok is an outstanding medical doctor and educator, an entrepreneur in biotechnology, and a global ambassador through his healthcare initiatives. He is the sole recipient of this award in the Greater China and we are proud of his recognition.”

Professor Zhang Shu Guang, Senior Vice-President, said: “Dr Fok’s efforts in delivering better healthcare education and service to Macau, greater China and globally should be highly regarded.”

Vice-President Professor Chen Xi said: “Dr Fok’s team effort in facilitating healthcare education and scientific advancements in the region will set a good example for the next generation of medical workers and scientists.”

Dr. Tong Ka Lok, Vice-President of MUST, said: “Dr Fok’s efforts in bringing advanced healthcare training, science research ideas and collaborations, with medical knowledge and a humanitarian angle to our Faculty, is indeed exemplary for our students.”
