Prof. Lin Zhijun takes office as Dean of MUST School of Business, starting from Next Year

Professor Lin Zhijun, doctoral supervisor, is the first doctor of economics and accountancy in China. He is also member of many associations such as American Accounting Association (AAA), The International Association of Accounting Education and Research (IAAER), Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA), Academy of Accounting Historians (AAH), Chinese Accounting Professors’ Association of North America, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA), and Australian Institute of Certified Management Accountants (CMA).

Before taking this appointment at MUST., Prof. Lin Zhijun held such posts as Director of Department of Accountancy and Law of Hong Kong Baptist University, Director of Audit Office of Accounting Department in Xiamen University, Vice-Chairman of Chinese Institute of Finance and Cost for Young and Mid-career Professionals, Executive Director of Fu Jian Accounting Association, and Chairman of Hong Kong Academic Accounting Association (HKAAA). He is now Deputy Director of Oversea Exchange Association of Accounting Society of China, and Chairman of Tertiary Education Committee of Australian Institute of Certified Management Accountants (Hong Kong Branch). In January 2015, Prof. Lin will officially take office in Macau University of Science and Technology.

In July 1982 and December 1985, Prof. Lin respectively received his master’s degree of economics and doctoral degree of economics in Xiamen University (being a student of Prof. Ge Jiashu). In 1991, he obtained a master’s degree of Business in Saskatchewan University, Canada. From November 1982 to December 1983 in Toronto, Canada, he worked as an intern for Deloitte, one of the eight biggest international accounting companies. Later, he took up teaching in Xiamen University from 1983 to 1988, and was promoted to associate professor in 1987. He went to America and worked as a visiting scholar in Stanford University and University of Illinois between 1988 and 1990. In August 1990, he began teaching in the Faculty of Management, University of Lethbridge, Canada, and was won tenureship in 1995. He became a Certified Public Accountant in China in August 1987, a Certified Public Accountant in America in May 1993 and a Certified Management Accountant in Australia in 2003. In 1996 and 1998, he successively visited and taught in Hong Kong University and Hong Kong Baptist University. Prof. Lin has been working in universities for years, engaging in teaching and research, curriculum development and administration. Now he is a visiting scholar in Institute for Financial and Accounting Studies, Xiamen University, Capital University of Economics and Business, Chinese Accounting, Finance and Business Research Unit, Cardiff University in Britain, and some other schools. He also had the experience of working for different governmental departments and some professional organizations in Mainland China and Hong Kong.

Specializing in accounting, audit, financial management and company management, Prof. Lin has published more than 60 papers in academic journals inside and outside China, and 13 monographs, university textbooks, and book translations. He is associate editor and editorial board member of many Chinese or overseas academic journals. The textbook, Modern Western Accounting Theory , coauthored by him and his supervisor, Ge Jiashu, not only won Excellent Teaching Material Award, but also has become the designated textbook for postgraduate students by the Department of Postgraduate Education, Ministry of Education. He is active in management practice and advisory activities, and his academic research has been granted by National Natural Science Foundation, Hong Kong Research Grant Council, and many university-level scientific research foundations.
