Joint Meeting of Board of Trustees of MUST Foundation and University Council Held at MUST

The joint meeting of Board of Trustees of the MUST Foundation and the University Council was held on June 11th, 2016 at MUST. About fifty board members and council members attended the meeting and Mr. Chui Sai Cheong, Chairman of Board of Trustees of the MUST Foundation, was the host.

At the meeting, Chair Prof. Liu Liang, President of MUST, summarized the university’s work and then introduced the plan for 2016/2017 academic year . He noted that holding tight to three key elements –“quality”,“innovation”and“achievement”,the university had attached equal importance to education and research, accelerated the pace of internationalization, and made tremendous progress in teaching, research, management, social services and other areas. MUST has also entered the list of the top 50 universities for the first time in the Top 100 University Ranking provided by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, elevating from the 72nd in 2013 to the 46th in 2015, and remained the youngest among the top 100 universities across the two straits and four regions. Chairman Zhou Li Gao of the University Council introduced the work of Executive Committee of University Council in the 2015/2016 academic year. He said that the Executive Committee held the responsibility of directing important matters such as starting, changing or stopping degree courses. All the committee members have shown great enthusiasm and commitment to their work.

Afterwards, Vice President Tong Ka Lok introduced the financial status of the university in the 2015/2016 academic year and the expenditure of the funds. Chairman Tsui Wai Kwan of the Supervisory Board of MUST Foundation also briefed the committee on the supervision of the financial status of the MUST Foundation, saying that its operational fund was sound and the reserve was sufficient to satisfy the needs for future development.

Chancellor Liu Chak Wan stated that MUST Foundation had made a campus construction plan in accordance with the university’s rapid development. Apart from the new dormitory building that was completed last year, a new academic building – Block O, will be completed on March, 2017. The second phase expansion project of the International School of Macau is now in progress, which will enable the school to accept more students.
