Professor Sun Jian Rong Addressed the Opening Ceremony

When addressing the Opening Ceremony, Prof. Sun Jian Rong noted that the University would like to give many thanks to the Macao S.A.R. government for its great support; it has been five years since the University International College was established, and the Portuguese program of the UIC has developed fast and well, the quality of the faculty team was recognized to be excellent, and students have made tremendous progresses. The UIC will soon establish the “Macau International Education Training Center”, and has filed applications to enlarge the admission size of its Portuguese program; it is believed that the UIC and the Portuguese program of the College will soon achieve greater height.

In alignment with the national strategy of “One Belt, One Road”, for the purpose of enhancing exchanges and cooperation between Macau and the international community, with the Macau S.A.R. government’s continual emphasis of training of Chinese-Portuguese bilingual talents, it has become an urgent task to foster integrated multi-lingual talents that can adapt to the social development in the contemporary Chinese society. Taking advantage of the great opportunities afforded by this seminar, the University International College of M.U.S.T. convened specialists from Macau, Mainland China, Portugal and Brazil to jointly deliberate on how to provide Macau and mainland universities with more assistances so as to further the development of Portuguese education both in Macau and in mainland China, perfect and share educational resources, and create favorable conditions for training of bilingual talents of Chinese and Portuguese. Guests who attended the seminar came from four countries (or regions), including Macau, Mainland China, Portugal, and Brazil; experts, specialists, and scholars from Macao Polytechnic University, Beijing University of Foreign Studies, and Shanghai International Studies University, and other institutions participated in the seminar and gave presentations on the theme of “Enhancing the Quality of Portuguese Education”.

This has been the first time for Macau University of Science and Technology to organize such a large-scale seminar on Portuguese education; the theme of the seminar was unanimously acknowledged by the guests. By way of this meeting, Portuguese-teaching universities across Macau, Mainland China, Portugal, and Brazil will establish a liaison mechanism to enhance partnership and exchanges and promote sharing of faculty and educational resources among the Portuguese-teaching universities of the four regions.
