In Celebration of its 5th Anniversary, University International College of M.U.S.T. Held Academic Forum on “Language Teaching and Cultural Integration - International Chinese Education under the Lens of ‘One Belt, One Road’”

In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the University International College of Macau University of Science and Technology, the Opening Ceremony of the “Language Teaching and Cultural Integration – International Chinese Education under the Lens of ‘One Belt, One Road’” Academic Forum was held at 10:30 am on November 4, 2016, at lecture hall N221 of the university library building. Prof. Chen Xi, Adviser to President of M.U.S.T., and Prof. Fang Quan, Executive Vice Dean of Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T. attended the Forum.

Prof. Sun Jian Rong, Associate Vice President of M.U.S.T. and Dean of the University International College, delivered a speech at the Ceremony, recalling the history of development of the International Chinese Education program of the UIC and looking into the future of the UIC, noting that the UIC will continue to take language education as its main mission and train more talents who are equipped with multi-lingual strengths for Chinese education.

Prof. Zhou Jian, Director of Macau Language and Culture Research Center, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Prof. Wu Yong Yi, Dean of International College of Chinese Studies, East China Normal University, and Prof. Bian Cheng Lin, Party Secretary of Guangxi University of Finance and Economics, extended congratulations to the University International College of M.U.S.T. and expressed prospects for partnership in academic exchanges in near future. Sixteen scholars from Rangsit University, Thailand, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Vietnam, Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing University of Foreign Studies, Shanghai Normal University, Huaqiao University, Guangxi University of Finance and Economics, the City University of Hong Kong, the University of Macau, Macau Ricci Institute, and Macau University of Science and Technology gave keynote speeches or presentations at the Forum. The main topics of the Forum include language education under the lens of “One Belt, One Road”, language economy of the countries along the “One Belt, One Road”, theories, practices and international outlook on international Chinese education, Macau’s strengths in language resources and language education development, and Macau’s language and literature studies.

The Forum celebrates the establishment of the University International College in the form of knowledge conducting, enables teachers and students of M.U.S.T. to engage in academic exchanges and discussions with specialists across home and abroad, and is bound to be rewarding and helpful for the UIC’s educational development in terms of international Chinese education and training of desirable talents.
