Director-General Zheng Xiaosong of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. led a delegation on a visit to Macau University of Science and Technology in the morning of July 13, 2018. They were warmly received by the University management, including President Liu Liang, Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Jiang Zhihong, and Vice President Pang Chuan. Director-General Zheng went on a tour of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines (Macau University of Science and Technology), after which the two parties held an engaging talk in a friendly exchange of ideas.

Commencing the talk, President Liu first extended warm welcome and thanks to Director-General Zheng for the support the Liaison Office has given to M.U.S.T. over the years. The President then gave the delegation an introduction of the educational philosophies, major developments, scientific research achievements and progressive visions for the upcoming years of the University. President Liu noted that M.U.S.T. has been making proactive efforts to move forward the academic and research advancement of the University and in the new academic year the University would incorporate the Constitution and the Basic Law as compulsory subjects of its general education program, aiming to foster excellent innovative talents that love both the nation and Macau; the University would also devote efforts to construct a harmonious campus, develop research areas where the University has strengths, and contribute to the Bay Area development and the adequately diversified sustainable development of Macau. Following the introduction by the President, Vice President Tong gave a report on the latest planning of the University campus expansion.

Director-General Zheng said that he was deeply impressed by his visit to the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines (Macau University of Science and Technology), and that since the turnover, M.U.S.T. has been growing fast along with Macau and has become the largest-scale comprehensive university in Macau, playing an active role in training talents for Macau. Director-General Zheng pointed out that the important instructions made by Chairman Xi earlier have, on one hand, given recognitions to the educational achievements of M.U.S.T., and on the other hand, have expressed wishes and identified directions for the University; that is, to foster more China-loving Macau-loving talents, create more scientific research outcomes, and make contributions for Macau’s adequately diversified sustainable development and the development of the Bay Area. It is believed that with the innovative forces and research achievements of M.U.S.T., the University is able to exert its strengths and make greater contributions for Macau and the motherland. Director-General Zheng rallied the University to continue to hold onto its educational principles of loving China and loving Macao, develop a high-quality faculty team, promote innovative studies, and accelerate transfer and application of research outcomes so as to contribute to Macau’s development; in the meantime, it is hoped that the University could reinforce exchanges and cooperation with the mainland and exert its strengths in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area. The Liaison Office would continue to provide full support for M.U.S.T., hoping that the University could reach new heights and make greater achievements.

Other members of the delegation from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. include Ms. Xu Ting, Director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs, Mr. Ji De Chang, Director of the General Office, Mr. Hong Bo, Director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs, Deputy Director Li Yongxian, Deputy Director Cen Jiayi, and Assistant Tan Lei.
