The 2018 Decorations, Medals and Certificates of Merit Awards Ceremony of the Macao S.A.R. was held at the Macau Cultural Centre on January 9, 2019. Chair Professor Liu Liang, President of Macau University of Science and Technology, and Professor Xu Aoao, Advisor to the Chancellor, received Honorific Certificate of Merit and Medal of Merit, respectively, for their contributions to Macao. The honors were presented by Macao S.A.R. Chief Executive Chui Sai On.

President Liu Liang was awarded Certificate of Merit, Honorific Title-Prestige, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the development, reputation and social advancement of Macao. President Liu is a world leading scholar in rheumatology and immunology. He’s begun to serve as President of M.U.S.T. and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines since January 2013. He is also Project Adviser of traditional medicine for the World Health Organization, Convener of the 1st Working Group for Chinese Herbal Medicine and Member of the Technical Committee of ISO/TC249, and President of the Chinese Medicine Immunology Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.

Prof. Xu Aoao, Advisor to Chancellor of M.U.S.T., was awarded Medal of Merit-Professions in recognition of his outstanding contributions in his profession. Advisor Xu has been dedicated to teaching and research in solar physics, space physics and plasma physics for many decades. He was President of M.U.S.T. from 2003 to 2012; in the course of his 50 years of teaching and research, he’s helped to train several generations of talents and professionals for the motherland and Macao; his disciples spread across the Greater China and now follow his path to continue to make great contributions to the society.
Both President Liu and Advisor Xu have made tremendous contributions to M.U.S.T. which has achieved fast-growing development under their leadership. The University now owns two state key labs: the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines and the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences. The University adopts the educational philosophy of attaching equal importance to both teaching and research, makes proactive efforts to bring in high-quality teaching and research staff, and has been ranked continuously higher over the years in the Ranking of Top Universities in Greater China, reaching 21st in 2018. M.U.S.T. has been making proactive efforts to train patriotic innovative talents, gear the innovative forces and research outputs of the University to answer the needs of Macao, exert the strengths of Macao and make further contributions for the development of the nation and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
