M.U.S.T. Co-initiates with 5 Organizations to Establish “Logistics and Supply Chain Innovation Alliance of the Greater Bay Area”

Macau University of Science and Technology led the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, South China University of Technology, the GuangDong Logistics Profession Association, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong, and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Macao to co-initiate the establishment of the “Logistics and Supply Chain Innovation Alliance of the Greater Bay Area” (the Alliance, hereafter). A press conference was held to announce the initiation at Room 501 in Block A of M.U.S.T. on January 18, 2019.

M.U.S.T. Vice President and Dean of the School of Business, Professor Lin Zhijun gave a briefing on the background, opportunities and preparation relating to the establishment of the Alliance. Vice President Lin said the Alliance aims mainly to further propel the fast development of transport, logistics and supply chain in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. To accomplish this it will integrate the academic resources of research institutes with the industrial strengths of enterprises in the three regions, train high-level professional talents, accelerate the industry-education-research trinity relating to logistics and supply chain in the Bay Area, deepen exchanges and research collaboration, elevate the regional standard of cooperation and synergetic innovation, speed up industrial optimization and upgrading, and contribute to the Bay Area development and national economy.

Other guests attending the press conference included Prof. Lu Chin Shan, Associate Head of the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies at the Faculty of Business, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Mr. Ma Ren Hong, President, and Ms. Liang Yu Xia, General Secretary of the GuangDong Logistics Profession Association; Ms. Lun Yuen-ha, President, Ms. Harriet Leung, Executive Manager, and Ms. Tam Man Ki, Senior Executive Director, of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong; Mr. Ku Weng Keong, Chair of Council of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Macao; Prof. Sheng Ni, Vice Dean of M.U.S.T. School of Business, Prof. Liu Chengkun, Head of Department of Accounting and Finance, and Prof. Tang Huajun, Head of Department of Decision Sciences. The attending members briefed on the operation of their own organizations and their recent planning for the establishment of the Alliance.

To date, the Alliance has attracted over 20 business schools and research institutes at universities, professional associations, and other logistics and supply chain enterprises from the Bay Area to become its first members. The official inauguration ceremony of the Alliance is scheduled to take place in Zhuhai in early April of 2019.
