Bank of China Donates a Special Fund to the University Hospital Helps
Promote Health Information Fighting COVID-19

President Li Guang of the Bank of China Macau Branch, joined by Vice President Ip Sio Kai and Vice President Chan Hio Peng, led a delegation on a visit to the Faculty of Medicine (FM) and the University Hospital (UH), M.U.S.T. on 28th February. The delegation was warmly received by Chancellor Liu Chak Wan and President Liu Liang of M.U.S.T. At the reception, the two parties exchanged views discussing how to exert respective strengths and contribute to the on-going prevention and fight against the COVID-19. Bank of China Macau Branch made a special donation to the UH to be used to help the FM and the UH to promote anti-epidemic information. Centering on the theme of “Popularizing health information and unite all possible forces to fight the epidemic”, efforts would be made to help disseminate among the public correct health information regarding prevention of viruses and improve the community’s capacity in synergizing all possible forces to fight the epidemic.

Other visiting guests from the delegation include Director Shu Youjun of the Macau Branch Office, Director Chen Fen of the Personal Finance and Channel Management Department, and Director Lei Jun of the Macau University of Science and Technology branch of Bank of China. M.U.S.T. Board Member Chen Jimin, Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Kwong Ying Wa, Administrative Director Chang Chi Wai of the UH and Media Coordination Manager He Yunhuan attended the reception.

At the reception, Chancellor Liu Chak Wan thanked the Bank of China for longtime support to M.U.S.T., especially for the visit, which took place at such a special time, saying greatly boosted the medical professionals’ morale. The chancellor also marked that the visit has fully embodied the social responsibilities and commitments of Bank of China as a mainstream bank in Macao, which aligned proactively and closely with the S.A.R. Government’s anti-epidemic work. Further, Chancellor Liu Chak Wan paid respect to Bank of China for taking the leadership to put forth a series of anti-epidemic financial relief measures.

The Macau University of Science and Technology Foundation has supported the University to establish the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, Macau Institute for Applied Research in Medicine and Health, the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine(FM), and the University Hospital(UH), which constitute a complete system for cultivation of talents in Chinese and Western medicines, scientific research, and medical services. The University also houses Nobel Prize laureates, academicians, chair professors, professors, and other cross-disciplinary professional talents, and has won recognitions and support from the Central Government, the Macao S.A.R. Government, and the social communities.

In response to the coronavirus outbreak, M.U.S.T. joined forces with the UH and set up a Scientific Prevention and Control of COVID-19 Task Force, which is headed by Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of M.U.S.T., Chair Prof. Liu Liang. Other members of the task force include experts and scholars in relevant areas from the University and the UH. The task force subsequently established an information platform to publish and disseminate information regarding correct ways of fighting COVID-19.

President Li Guang expressed respect to the hospital medics, saying that since the outbreak, the UH’s medical professionals have been duly observing their duties and fighting against the epidemic on the front lines, and that the spirits they’ve demonstrated, their devotions to helping the sick and saving life, their commitments to safeguarding the safety of the general public, were awe-striking. On behalf of the Bank of China, he offered the highest regard and the sincerest gratitude to the medical staff. During the outbreak, Bank of China Macau Branch acted in response to the S.A.R. Government’s call for anti-epidemic financial relief measures, and put forth a series of special loans in support of fighting the epidemic, which in particular answers to the needs of fund for medical health, manufacturing of medical supplies, and other epidemic related areas. Like the UH, Bank of China will not withdraw from its responsibilities to fight the epidemic. It was hoped that by way of the visit, the two parties could exert respective strengths and join forces to provide stronger support for prevention and control of the epidemic.
