M.U.S.T. Wins ICC Moot Court Competition, Chinese Version

The Organizing Committee of the 2020 International Criminal Court Moot Court  (“ICC”) Moot Court Competition, Chinese version, has established the results of The Competition. M.U.S.T student team from Faculty of Law, ranked the 1st among the list of 1st prize owners. They also collected all the individual awards of ICC, including 1st Prize of the Best Memorial Award and the Best Government Counsel Award, 3rd Prize of the Best Defense Counsel and the Best Prosecution Counsel, as well as the Award of Special Honor.

Organized by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other national criminal law organizations with international reach, The Competition is a simulating court competition that welcomes undergraduate and postgraduate participants. ICC simulates courts in 6 official languages (i.e. English, French, Chinese, Spanish, Russian and Arabic), that aim to promote the idea of international criminal law to the world.

 ICC Moot Court Competition, Chinese version, is organized by the Chinese Initiative on International Criminal Justice (CIICJ) in accordance with the international criminal law, and the rules and procedures of ICC-Moot Court. It is the only international court simulation held in Chinese and welcomes the biggest number of participants of ICC- Moot Court in China. The Competition had the participation of 62 teams of law school students from universities cross the straits and SARs of China, including University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Fu Dan University, Tong Ji University, Ji Lin University, among others.

It’s the first time that our Faculty of Law students participate in The Competition with 3 counsel memorials over 10 thousand words. The participating team was composed of leader Shao Shuai, undergraduate student Qian Beiyi, Chen Shutong and Liu Keyao from Faculty of Law, and Zhang Jiayu and Xu Dongchen that participated in the preparation. The coaches of the team were Assistant Prof. Xue Wenchao and Assistant Prof. Chen Bo. Despite of lack of competition experience and the impact of COVID-19, the participants and coaches collected resources, conducted studies and carried out consultation and discussion on Zoom and WeChat. With dedication and teamwork, our students have won the 1st prize.
