M.U.S.T. Management Visits CPPCC Vice Chairman Ho Hau Wah

Dr. Liu Chak Wan, Chancellor of Macau University of Science and Technology, and President Liu Liang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, led the university management and scientific research specialists on a visit to Vice Chairman Ho Hau Wah of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on the 20th of August. The two parties exchanged views on the future development orientations of the University, industry-education-research synergetic development of Chinese medicine, research projects purposed for battling, controlling and preventing epidemics, and research projects in the field of space science.

Chancellor Liu Chak Wan first gave a report to Vice Chairman Ho Hau Wah on the current status and development plan of Macau University of Science and Technology. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the University, which has been co-growing and co-advancing with the Macao S.A.R. Thanks to the full-heart nurturing and full-force support of the Central People’s Government, the Ministry of Education, and the Macao S.A.R. Government, the University has been growing steadfast and has made remarkable progresses in cultivation of talent, science and technology innovations, and services for the society. To this date, the University has become the largest comprehensive university in Macao. Moving forward, M.U.S.T. will continue to make contributions to moderate diversification of Macao economy and the progress of the Greater Bay Area.

Vice President Ho extended welcome to the visiting M.U.S.T. management, and said that M.U.S.T. has become a significant mark for the fast development of the higher education sector of Macao since it returned to the Motherland, and it has made significant contributions to the economic development and societal progresses of Macao as well as to the greater-depth integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With the continuous amplification of the academic reputation of M.U.S.T. at home and abroad, its educational quality and research standards have greatly improved. The University’s pool of students has been greatly diversified and optimized, which has attracted an increasing number of outstanding students to pursue studies at the University. It is hoped that M.U.S.T. could cultivate a greater number of outstanding talents to help Macao integrate into the greater picture of national development and contribute to the progress of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and create more science and technology outcomes.

President Liu Liang expressed that over the course of the twenty years since M.U.S.T. was founded, the University has been upholding its core value by fostering patriotic talents who love China and Macao. The Central People’s Government and the Macao S.A.R. Government have been a great force of support to the University, with which the University was able to set up the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences, and a plethora of partner research bases for key research institutes of the Ministry of Education. These installments provide platforms for the University to draw elite talents, which in turn provides a solid base for innovative development. As such, the University felt tremendously grateful and eventually lived up to its expectations and received multiple state-level, provincial-level, and ministerial-level science and technology awards and prizes.

Vice President Ho Hau Wah said that Macao’s sustainable development goes inseparably from science and technology innovations. He gave congratulations to M.U.S.T. on its outstanding performances in the key science and technology research projects purposed for battling epidemics subsidized by the Macao S.A.R. Government, where and when the University was granted the largest number of projects in Macao, making it become the main battle ground of Macao in fighting against COVID-19 via science and technology. In the meantime, the vice president also congratulated the University on landing Macao’s first science satellite project to its own State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences. The satellite project is a new opportunity to propel Macao’s science and technology development. It is believed that the research outcomes expected to be generated from the project would bring positive boost and uplifting societal benefits to Macao and to the national and world’s science and technology advancement.

Other members of the visiting delegation from M.U.S.T. include Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Jiang Zhihong, Vice President Pang Chuan, Vice President Lin Zhijun, Vice President and Administrative Officer of the President’s Office Kwong Ying Wa, University Council Member Chen Jimin, Director Zhang Keke of the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences, and Prof. Zhang Kang of the Faculty of Medicine.
