Chair Prof. Jacky Yuk-chow So, Newly Appointed Vice President and Concurrent Dean of the School of Business of Macau University of Science and Technology

Over the course of the 20 years since Macau University of Science and Technology was founded, it has been upholding the educational philosophy of attaching equal importance to teaching and research as a means to promote an all-rounded high-quality academic education, improve academic standards and meet with the needs of societal development. Chair Prof. Yuk-chow So was appointed to be a Vice President of the University starting from September 1, 2020, to oversee international, cross-university and cross-institution cooperation projects, as well as collaborative projects between the University and local organizations. He also concurrently serves as Dean of the School of Business of the University.

Professor Jacky Yuk-chow So received his Ph.D. degree from the Ohio State University. He was Dean and BBVA-Compass Bank Distinguished Professor of International Finance of the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business at Texas A&M International University, as well as Executive Director of the Academy of Entrepreneurial Finance. He was a professor of finance at the Economics and Finance Department at the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIUE) for more than twenty years and served as chairman for almost ten years; he was also President of its Faculty Senate.

Professor So has vast experience serving as consultant for many corporations and law firms. He was a visiting scholar and/or consultant of the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, Philadelphia Stock Exchange, Federal Reserve Bank in St. Louis, Office of the Small Business Administration (SBA), Washington D.C., among others. Furthermore, he was an editorial board member of the Global Finance JournalJournal of International Business, and The Journal of Entrepreneurial FinanceAcademy of Entrepreneurial Finance, etc., and a book editor of the North American Journal of Economics and Finance. Professor So’s research interests are international finance, banking, corporate finance, and risk management. He received more than a million dollar grant to support his research, teaching, and service activities.

In 2014, he was invited to be a visiting scholar in the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Asia and Pacific Department and received the Education Leadership Award from the Asia’s Best B-School Awards 2014 held in Singapore, making him the first person from Macao to receive this award.

Later, in 2016, Professor So was invited to be Research Fellow at Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research. He was the Dean, BNU Chair Professor of the Faculty of Business Administration at University of Macau and Co-Director of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management from 2010 to 2018.

The University believes that with his international outlooks, broad academic impact and rich experience in teaching, research and administrative management, Prof. So will bring about new impetuses to Macau University of Science and Technology, helping the University develop high-quality education, enable international exchange programs, unite strengths and expand collaborations, and drive the University to accomplish new developments in the context of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area national strategy.
