Hengqin-Macao Industrial Collaboration Conference: Another Major Step Made in Macao Science Satellite Industry-Education-Research Collaborations

The 1st Hengqin-Macao Industry-Education-Research Collaboration Conference was held successfully at the Luyan Road Performance Center, Block 18, Zhuhai-Hengqin-Macao Youth Entrepreneurship Valley, in the afternoon of August 7, 2020. The conference was jointly organized by the Higher Education Bureau of the Macao S.A.R., Hengqin New Area Macao Affairs Bureau and Zhuhai Da Hengqin Development Co., Ltd. The conference drew major players and all associated companies along the chain of smart city industry in Hengqin (e.g., DHC Software Co., Ltd, VITECH Corporation, China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd, etc.) and the relevant laboratories from Macao universities, including Macau University of Science and Technology, the University of Macau, and the City University of Macau, where all parties of interest met in consolidation to promote industry-education-research collaborations in the field of smart city industry.

Director Zhang Keke gave a presentation on Macao science satellite products and industry at the conference

At the conference, Prof. Zhang Keke, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences, Macau University of Science and Technology, gave a splendid presentation to introduce the research progresses of the Macao Science 1 satellite, the development plan for Macao science satellite system, and future satellite data products and industry-education-research industrial plans. Macao Science 1 was developed jointly by scientists and engineers at home and abroad organized by the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences, Macau University of Science and Technology, with the support of the Macao S.A.R. Government, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. and the China National Space Administration. Upon being launched, the satellite will become the world’s first low-inclination, low-orbit geomagnetic satellite to be used to watch and observe the South Atlantic Anomaly. In the future, it is planned that the Macao science satellite system will have an addition of 2-3 high-precision polar orbit satellites to form a satellite constellation to conduct all-day real-time observations over the global magnetic field, which is expected to yield a series of satellite data products, including multi-layer geomagnetic field models and space weather forecast models. These products would make remarkable contributions to areas such as civil geomagnetic navigation, global mineral resources survey, petrol drill smart navigation, satellite operation safety guarantee, etc.

Director Zhang Keke especially marked the profound impacts and significances expected to be made by Macao Science satellite products on and to Macao science and technology causes and industrial development and to the science and technology industry of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as the importance of using the Greater Bay Area as a bridge to promote international cooperation. Prof. Zhang’s presentation had enthusiastic responses from the company representatives in the audience. Posterior to the meeting, several company representatives, including China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd and Guangzhou ESTAR Science Investment Management Co. Ltd, met with the Macao Science satellite project team of the State Key Laboratory led by Director Zhang Keke for more elaborate and detailed discussions on interests of collaborations and the relevant collaborative contents, products, and forms. The delegates stood in the same line to agree to jointly promote the smart city industry and contribute to Hengqin-Macao industry-education-research collaborations.
