Opening of Art Macao - Light of M.U.S.T; and the 2021 Mainland - Macao Joint Exhibition and Seminar on the Art Exchange of Pottery, Painting, Music, and Chinese Opera (Xiqu)

The joint inauguration ceremony of Art Macao - Light of M.U.S.T; and the 2021 Mainland - Macao Joint Exhibition and Seminar on the Art Exchange of Pottery, Painting, Music, and Chinese Opera (Xiqu) is part of the 2021 Ministry of Culture and Tourism Mainland-SARs Exchange Program. It was successfully held by the Macau University of Science and Technology at Block R (Academic Complex) on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Zhang Zhi Qin, Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Arts of Macau University of Science and Technology, remarked in his speech that “Art exhibitions and performances are key to the promotion of culture and the development of tourism and cultural facilities. They are effective tools to improve the comprehensive qualities of students. With the immense support from the public, the Faculty of Humanities and Arts has held and joined various art exhibitions, performances, and seminars over the years”. 

“This event will showcase a variety of art forms, including Pottery, Painting, Music, and Chinese Opera (Xiqu), and bring diverse art experiences. This is our very first time organizing exhibitions and performances of various art forms at the same time.  Through the event, we hope to create an integrated art ambiance for the participants to experience and observe the characteristics, charm, and tension between different art forms.”

“This event is a key segment of the 2021 Ministry of Culture and Tourism Mainland-SARs Exchange Program. It is also an important element of Art Macao. We hope to enhance the art and cultural exchange between Macao and Mainland China, boost China’s culture and art, support talented artists, and launch excellent artworks through the event.”

Zhu Legeng, Dean of Faculty of Literature and Arts, Chinese National Academy of Arts, highlighted in his speech that “the event has exhibited outstanding artworks from artists, teachers, and students from the Faculty of Literature and Arts, Chinese National Academy of Arts, Macao University of Science and Technology, Painting Academy of Macao, as well as representative artists from Macao. Exhibited art pieces include Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, pottery, cultural and creative design, landscape design, etc. The diversified art collections denote the blooming art industry in Macao and China. During the event, highly skilled artists from the Faculty of Literature and Arts, Chinese National Academy of Arts, will perform Chinese Opera (Xiqu), immersing the audience in the charm of traditional performing arts and the beauty of the quintessence of Chinese culture.”

Yang Daming, Dean of Painting Academy of Macao, added in his speech that “the art exchange made possible by this event supports local art creation, creates a platform that connects local and international artists, and brings new perspectives to the art exchange between Macao and Mainland China. The event also contributes to Macau University of Science and Technology’s academic development in humanities and arts, nurtures young students, and widens students’ horizons on art and culture.”

During the inauguration ceremony, 5 artists from the Chinese National Academy of Arts donated their artworks to the Macau University of Science and Technology. After the ceremony, distinguished guests and students visited the exhibitions located on the 3rd to 6th floors of Block R accompanied by the artists. They were greatly impressed by the high standards of the exhibition.

During the exhibition, 10 artists from Chinese National Academy of Arts will host 10 lectures and seminars at Block R and share their art creation experience. 

Two exhibitions, namely Art Macao - Light of M.U.S.T, and the 2021 Mainland - Macao Joint Exhibition and Seminar on the Art Exchange of Pottery, Painting, Music and Chinese Opera, are jointly inaugurated this time.  Art Macao - Light of M.U.S.T is part of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021” themed “To create for well-being”.  It is organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macao University of Science and Technology, advised by Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture (GSASC), Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance (GSEF), supported by Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), Government Tourism Office, and funded by Higher Education Fund.  The exhibition has showcased over a hundred outstanding works of well-known local and international artists as well as teachers and students Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macao University of Science and Technology.  The main venues are the Art Gallery and the gallery space on the 6th floor, where the outstanding works of teachers and students of Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macao University of Science and Technology are exhibited, covering installation art, Chinese painting, oil painting, multimedia art, comprehensive materials, etc.  The gallery space on the 5th floor displays soliciting excellent "anti-epidemic posters" works from across the Two-Shores-and-Four-Region and worldwide, reflecting the design feelings of jointly resisting the epidemic. The gallery space on the 3rd floor and 4th floor presents Macao Digital Arts Exhibition and Faculty of Humanities and Arts graduation exhibition respectively. 

This exhibition enables teachers and students to participate in local large-scale art events, and provide them with a platform to show their talents.  It is also a review on the art and cultural level of the teachers and students, as well as the implementation of quality teaching.

Co-organized by Chinese National Academy of Arts, Macao University of Science and Technology and Painting Academy of Macao, the 2021 Mainland - Macao Joint Exhibition and Seminar on the Art Exchange of Pottery, Painting, Music and Chinese Opera is part of 2021 Ministry of Culture and Tourism Mainland-SARs Exchange Program.  10 representative artists from Chinese National Academy of Arts who are active in both the local and international art industries are invited to participate in the program.  There is also active participation of teachers and students from Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macao University of Science and Technology.

The exhibitions showcased outstanding works from artists in Macao and China, across the Two-Shores-and-Four-Region and worldwide.  The artworks embody the aesthetics of art and culture and exemplify contemporary artists’ pursuit of excellence in their art creation.  The art and ideology of art piece is demonstrated through the artist’s detailed understanding on history, era, and life.  Art Macao has created a whole new exhibition experience, bringing an immersive cultural atmosphere to the MUST Art Gallery as a gallery and an art garden.  The Art Gallery will continue to be an inclusive base for art exchange and the showcase of artworks from artists with different cultural backgrounds.  As an influential professional and academic art space, the art gallery is dedicated to the art and culture industry in Macao.  It gathers artistic and cultural forces from around the world to build the artistic network across the city.

The exhibitions are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day until October 11. Exhibition venues are located on the 3rd to the 6th floors of Building R of the university.  Enterprises, artists and the public are welcomed.
