In the spirit of implementing the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, materializing the Strategic Cooperation Agreement between Zhuhai People’s Government and Macau University of Science and Technology, deepening collaborations in the medical field, driving co-building, sharing and integrated development of high-quality medical health resources in Zhuhai and Macao, and providing, in greater capacity, high-end, high-quality medical health services for the residents of Zhuhai and Macao, Zhuhai People’s Hospital and Macau University of Science and Technology held a Plaque Unveiling Ceremony for the First Affiliated Hospital of Faculty of Medicine, Macau University of Science and Technology at Zhuhai People’s Hospital in the morning of September 11, 2021. This marks the beginning of substantial cooperation between the two parties in areas such as medical education, research, exchanges, and management.

Earlier this year on March 27, Zhuhai People’s Hospital and Macau University of Science and Technology signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement between Zhuhai People’s Government and Macau University of Science and Technology. The provisions of the agreement consist of jointly growing Zhuhai People’s Hospital to become the first affiliated hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Macau University of Science and Technology, presenting series of academic forums such as Sino-Luso High-End Medicine Forum, jointly promoting medical academic exchanges along the Belt & Road, launching the Zhuhai-Macao International Medical Talents Training Base, exploring mechanisms of introducing and fostering international medical elite talents, and gradually advancing and establishing a force of medical talents to support local medical services in Zhuhai and Macao.

He noted that as a high-standard hospital of Guangdong Province, Zhuhai People’s Hospital acts to implement fully and completely the important remarks and instructions given by Party Secretary Xi Jinping, carry out the deployment devised by the Guangdong Health Commission to hasten the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, promote sharing, co-building and integrated development of high-quality medical health resources, and better serve the residents of the Greater Bay Area with high-end, high-quality medical health services. As the first Level-3-Class-A comprehensive medical services provider in Hengqin, the Hengqin Campus of Zhuhai People’s Hospital Medical Group has always adopted the mission of “Rooted in Zhuhai to serve Guangdong and Macao”. The latest form of this in-depth cooperation, becoming the First Affiliated Hospital of Faculty of Medicine, Macau University of Science and Technology, will drive to a greater height the in-depth medical services collaboration between Guangdong and Macao in Hengqin. The hospital will center on the four strategic positions, three phasal objectives and four strategic missions of the In-depth Cooperation Zone, provide full assistance, support, and services for the development of the In-depth Cooperation Zone, construct a regional medical joint entity and a regional medical center for Guangdong and Macao, provide higher-standard, higher-quality medical services, and make greater contributions for the medical health services of the Greater Bay Area.

President Lee Hun Wei gave a speech and pointed out that as a pioneer in medical education in the Macao S.A.R., the Faculty of Medicine of Macau University of Science and Technology has gained wide recognitions from all walks of the community and has on its shoulder the important responsibilities of training medical health professionals for the Greater Bay Area. As such, the faculty has placed great emphasis on fostering medical ethics, qualities, and practical clinical abilities, pursuing great kindness and aiming to bring brand new development opportunities for the medical health cause of the Greater Bay Area. In proactive response to the national Belt & Road initiative, and in the spirit of furthering the implementation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Faculty of Medicine of Macau University of Science and Technology, the Zhuhai People’s Government and Zhuhai People’s Hospital Medical Group have been working closely in the medical health field. To the date, the First Affiliated Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Macau University of Science and Technology officially unveiled plaque. The hospital will adopt a novel government-university cooperation co-building model to deepen the significant practice and achievements of Zhuhai-Macao collaboration in the medical field. In future, the University will continue to seize opportunities to promote the development of medical health in the Greater Bay Area, train the highly desirable high-end health and medical professionals for the Greater Bay Area, promote co-building and sharing of high-quality medical resources in the Greater Bay Area, make efforts for integrated development, better serve the residents of Zhuhai and Macao, or even the entire Greater Bay Area, with higher-standard, higher-quality medical health services, and jointly contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area.

Recently, the announcement of the General Plan for Development of Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin constitutes a major strategic deployment to enrich the great practices of One Country, Two Systems and support Macao to integrate into the national development. The plan plays a guiding role to elevate the stance of Zhuhai and Macao as two pole cities of the Greater Bay Area, provides forceful support, and draws a wonderful blueprint. Now that the First Affiliated Hospital of Faculty of Medicine of Macau University of Science and Technology has been inaugurated officially at Zhuhai People’s Hospital Medical Group, it embodies the reinforcement of resources and collaboration of forces between Macau University of Science and Technology and Zhuhai People’s Hospital Medical Group, the in-depth materialization of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement between Zhuhai People’s Government and Macau University of Science and Technology, provides new opportunities and new space for medical and health cooperation between Zhuhai and Macao, and aligns with the expectations and yearnings for better health and life of the residents of Zhuhai and Macao.
