Clincial Laboratory of University Hospital awarded continuous International Accreditation

NATA assessors confer accreditation to the University Hospital Clinical Laboratory

The Clincial Laboratory of the University Hospital has passed an on-site re-assessment administered by the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) on 3 September. It was awarded continuous international accreditation by NATA and RCPA according to ISO:18159 criteria.

NATA is a leading international accreditation authority that is certified by the Australian Government for accrediting analytical and medical laboratories worldwide, and RCPA collaborates with NATA to jointly accredit medical laboratories for assurance of high proficiency and competence.

Training of front-line staff for the reassessment was conducted by Professor Christopher Lam (Director) and Mr Stephen Cheng (Manager) of the Clincial Laboratory. They were committed that staff and the laboratory would derive much benefit from the process of preparing for accreditation. At the Exit Meeting, Australian assessors commended the laboratory for its high standard of clinical practice.

To-date the University Hospital Clinical Laboratory remains the only internationally accredited medical laboratory in Macau. It will continue to strive in providing a proficient service for patients of the University Hospital and other patient groups. With continuous international accreditation, the Laboratory is also uniquely qualified for participation in multi-city international drug trials.
