Prof. Timothy Lee from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management at M.U.S.T. became the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Tourism Research (IJTR)

Prof. Timothy Lee from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) became the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Tourism Research (IJTR) in May 2023. Around 50 candidates from all over the world applied for the open position in early 2023, but after the 3-month long official selection process he was appointed. The IJTR is one of the worldwide leading tourism journals published by John Wiley and Sons (Wiley) in Oxford, the United Kingdom since 1997. It is listed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and Q2 in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) with an impact factor of 4.737 in 2022.

Prof. Lee aims to raise the position of the journal to Q1 in JCR and impact factor higher than 10 in the next 3 years. There are more than 1,000 manuscripts submitted per year to IJTR from more than 70 countries, and the acceptance rate is around 15%. He wishes to encourage FHTM teachers to cite as many IJTR articles as they can in their academic works and promote the journal to their colleagues and students worldwide. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/15221970 is the homepage of the IJTR.

Prof. Lee’s MSc and PhD in hospitality and tourism management were awarded by the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom. He was a professor in Australia and Japan before moving to Macao, and has been invited more than 100 times to give special lectures or keynote speeches in 20 countries. He has published more than 330 research papers in academic journals, books, and conference proceedings (including 120 in the SSCI ranked journals and 130 in A* or A in the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) ranked journals). 

His research interests include wellness/health tourism, food tourism, cultural heritage tourism, and tourism/leisure/hospitality development that incorporates regional branding or values. He is the founding organizer of the two biennial conferences: GLOSITH (Global Congress of Special Interest Tourism & Hospitality, www.glosith.net), and ICOHOTH (International Congress of Health-Oriented Tourism & Hospitality, www.icohoth.org).
