MUST’s Space Exploration Exhibition on Campus First Time

Held by Macau University of Science and Technology, organized by the Space Science Institute, MUST, a press release conference was held for the “Space Exploration Exhibition --- A Closer Look at the Mystery of the Solar System” on the afternoon of July 8, 2014. Prof. Jiang Zhi Hong, Associate Vice President of MUST, Prof. Tang Ze Sheng, Director of the Space Science Institute, Prof. Mei Bao, Assistant Director of the Space Science Institute, Director Tsang Hio Ian from the Macao Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Associate Prof. Hon Chi Tin, Vice President of the Macao Association for Promotion of Science and Technology, and Principal Lei Pou Tin of Macau Pooi To Middle School attended the press conference.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), and supported by the Macao Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ), the Macao Association for Promotion of Science and Technology and three local middle schools. The Space Exploration Science Education Exhibition will tour around the following four schools: from July 10 to 17 at Macau Pooi To Middle School, from July 19 to 25, at the Macau Workers’ Children High School, from September 12 to 19, at Macau Pui Ching Middle School, and from September 21 to 27at the Macau University of Science and Technology. In time, more schools will join as locations for the exhibition. In the mean time, this is also the first time for science education programs of universe exploration on school campuses.

Associate Vice President of MUST, Prof. Jiang Zhi Hong noted that the Space Exploration Science Education Exhibition would enable the public to have a deeper understanding of the mankind’s current advancements in deep space exploration of the solar system, uplift the community’s spirits to make more progress, and enhance the youth’s interest in science. He acknowledged that there is an urgent need for the participation and dedication of universities and researchers of science for the science education programs to thrive. The university has joined hands with relevant societies and institutions of Macau, and made great efforts to establish a science education platform for the youth and build a mechanism that can tie the university with the outside parties in promoting science so as to achieve sharing of science education resources and services, which have been very important actions that MUST has taken to contribute to science education.

Afterwards, Assistant Director Mei Bao made an introduction of the major items for display at the exhibition; they include over 300 valuable photographs that were achieved by mankind in exploration of space, dynamic display models of the Sun, big planets, and small planets in the solar system, valuable meteorite samples, videos of space exploration, videos of the Moon, science education seminars by specialists, space technology production, knowledge competition about space exploration and so on.

Director Tsang Hio Ian from the Macao Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, and Principal Lei Pou Tin of Macau Pooi To Middle School also acknowledged the great potentials for the exhibition to enhance the Macau youth’s knowledge of science through the series of activities such as presentations and interactive lectures.
