MUST Great Master Seminars Series: Academician Xu Zhi Qin Talked about the Himalayas

Sponsored by Macao Foundation and hosted by Macau University of Science and Technology, Session Three of “MUST Great Master Seminars Series XVII” was held in Room N101 of the library building on September 24th, 2014. Ms. Xu Zhi Qin, well-known architectonic geologist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a lecture on “The Himalayas”.

During the seminar, Academician Xu first talked about the humanistic history and unique ethnic culture that is cultivated by the Himalayas. She took for example the home of Buddha to explicate the profound history and humanistic concerns underneath the Himalayas. She then gave a detailed analysis of the distribution and movement of the earth’s tectonic plates, attributing the source of the Himalayas and Mount Everest to the convergence of the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate. She concluded the session with a summary of the Himalayan spirit, which is to initiate the positive life energy of a person, to elevate the scientific innovativeness of a team, and to awaken the creative passion of a nation.
