M.U.S.T. and Cybersecurity Association of China Cooperate on 5G Cyber Safety in the Greater Bay Area

The “2019 Internet VIP – Macau Tour” was held at conference room N101 of the library building of Macau University of Science and Technology, at 10 am, in the morning of September 11. Director-General Wang Xiujun of the Cybersecurity Association of China spoke and expressed hopes that Mainland China and the Macao industry could engage in in-depth exchanges, explore a greater diversity of Internet contents, products and services, and provide better services for the development of one center, one platform and the Greater Bay Area.

The tour is co-organized by the Cybersecurity Association of China, which is under the supervision of the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, China, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macau Association of Internet Culture, Macao Internet Creative and Development Association, and Macau New Media Alliance. Taking “the 5G era and the Future” as its theme, the event aims to foster exchanges and cooperation between Macao and the Mainland in the field.

At the meeting, Secretary-General Li Yuxiao of the Cybersecurity Association of China and Vice President Tong Ka Lok of Macau University of Science and Technology represented the two parties to sign MOU, expecting to exert and integrate their own strengths and join forces to advance the development of 5G in the Greater Bay Area and contribute to the continuous development of the next-generation internet safety. Director-General Wang Xiujun of the Cybersecurity Association of China, Deputy Director Xue Xiaofeng of the Liaison Office of Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R., Academician Liu Yunjie of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director Wan Sucheng of the Publicity and Culture Department of the Liaison Office, Director Lau Wai Meng of Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau, and President Liu Liang of Macau University of Science and Technology officiated the inauguration ceremony and witnessed the signing of MOU.

Director-General Wang Xiujun delivered a speech at the conference. She said that Macao owns sound network information infrastructure and information services capacity, Mainland China and Macao could explore new models of cooperation, advance integrated development of media by way of synergetic innovation, and join forces to improve network safety-guarding abilities.

She further noted that cyber security is a matter that concerns national security, social stability, and the very own interests of the general public. Currently, cyber security tends to become increasingly complicated, various cybersecurity hazards and risks rise on a daily basis, while safety-guarding abilities in network security are substantially lacking. The Greater Bay Area is a central locus of information, as well as a haven for network safety hazards.

She therefore hopes that the Mainland and Macao could join forces and seek cooperation to reinforce industrial organization, boost interactivity between enterprises and research institutions, jointly serve for safety defenses for the facilities at the Greater Bay Area, perform safe management and protection of personal data, promote development of cybersecurity industry, deepen promotion and popularization of cybersecurity awareness, and improve the national safety-guarding abilities in cybersecurity.

President Liu Liang gave a speech

President Liu Liang also spoke at the conference. He mentioned that in order to align with the national strategy of developing IPv6 Next Generation Internet, Macau University of Science and Technology integrated its internal resources and collaborated with the China Future Internet Engineering Center in establishing the International Institute of Next Generation Internet. The Institute is dedicated to exert Macao’s strengths, conduct research and applications, and construct a series of new Internet platforms in Macao, covering various areas, including basic resources, key techniques, international management, training of talents, formulation of standards, and industrial applications.

Keynote speeches followed, given by Academician of China Engineering Academy and Director of Science and Technology Committee of China Unicom, Mr. Liu Yunjie, Vice President Tang Weihong of People’s Daily Online, Director of China Future Internet Engineering Center and Director of the M.U.S.T. International Institute of Next Generation Internet, Mr. Liu Dong, and Prof. Shen Yang from School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University, respectively on the topics of 5G application prospects and Internet development trends, media integrated development, new technology and cybersecurity, and new media platforms operation.
