In order to help our members gain a better understanding in the volunteers works, consolidate their social service skills and the capability in activity planning, Dr. Lo Fung Lin was invited by the student affairs office to conduct a volunteer training course on November 15 and November 22 in 2020. 47 members of Social Service Team took part in it.
During the courses, Dr. Lo Fung Lin not only presented the definition of social service, helped members learn about the difference between sympathy and empathy, but also shared the rights of volunteers and some basic theoretical knowledge with them. Through games, members are required to choose one of the service targets and provide some corresponding activities for them. making members could acquire some skillsets in activity planning and the courses were filled with warm atmosphere.
After the courses, Yiming Gong, one of the members said that the volunteer training course was one of the most important sections of his volunteer experience. With the guidance of Ms. Lo, he also realized that it is a warm heart that we need, as well as perseverance, when engaging in social service. We should keep making great effort with positive attitude, respect everyone in need and be friendly to them.
This activity not only provided a chance for members to strengthen the knowledge of social service, but in a way make up their mind to be a qualified volunteer.
In each semester, Social Service Team will conduct the volunteer training course for freshmen so as to help them gain some professional basic volunteer knowledge. These courses will make them qualified volunteers and do better job in the future.
Dr. Lo Fung Lin, who holds Master in Social Work and Social Sciences from Hong Kong Baptist University, is also registered as a social worker in Hong Kong. She has worked as a first-line volunteer training tutor for more than ten years of social work for children, teenagers, families and the senior. At present, she is a part-time lecturer at the Department of General Education of Macau University of Science and Technology.
