MUST Cantonese Debating Team Gains Valuable Experience through a Friendly Exchange Competition with Macao Polytechnic Institute

In order to enhance friendship between two Universities, on April 11, 2015, MUST Cantonese Debating Team was invited to contest with that of Macao Polytechnic Institute where they held two friendly rounds of debates. In round 1, also the warm-up, the debating topic is “The advantages and disadvantages of digitalized sacrifice”, the opinion of For is “The advantages outweigh the disadvantages”, while the Against “The disadvantages outweigh the advantages”. MUST Team as the Against consists of Liu Chaoying, Xu Zhiwei, Wang Yuncong and Chen Mingyuan. In the match, both sides made rigorous arguments, fierce questioning and free debate, which provided the judges and audience a wonderful debating feast. In round 2, also the real time debate, the topic was “Girls should wash the dishes when visit boyfriend’s home”, participants of both sides had one hour for preparation, in which MUST Team included Zhang Jiahua, Li Xiaojun, Huo Chuxian and Deng Xiaolin. And Huo Chuxian won the Best Debater Award.

With the valuable comments and suggestions from judges, and many thanks to fellow debaters of Macao Polytechnic Institute and sponsors for their hospitalities, the contest came  to a successful conclusion. MUST team benefited a lot from the experience, realized themselves’ weakness and others’ strength, and hoped that they could strengthen their debating skills through learning from each other in the later training.
