MUST Basketball Team Achieves Great Success in the “2014-2015 Macau Inter-University Basketball Championships”

 

On April 11, 2015, the “2014-2015 Macau Inter-University Basketball Championships” hosted by the Macau Universitarian Sports’ Association and co-organized by the University of Macau took place at UM Sports Complex. In order to provide a platform in whereColleges and Universities in Macau can achieve better communication, the Macau Universitarian Sports’ Association held such a basketball match. This competition involved 12 men and women teams from six Colleges and Universities including the University of Macau, the Macao Polytechnic Institute, the City University of Macau, the Institute for Tourism Studies, and the University of Saint Joseph. MUST Men's Basketball Team, with the principle of “mutual tolerance and support, and keeping courageous”, finally won the third place.

 

In the first battle with the City University of Macau, MUST Basketball Team built up a huge lead. Five players got more than 1o scores, among which the vice-captain Xu Chenyu scored the highest with 23 points and another player Lu Guanliang chased closely behind with 19 points, and the whole team gained 100 scores. What such an impressive start! MUST Basketball Team cruised to victory over many teams but lost to the University of Macau and took the second place in the group table. In the battle with the first place of another group which is the final champion the Macao Polytechnic Institute, MUST was defeated and matched for third-place.

 

On April 26, MUST basketball team battled with the Institute for Tourism Studies for third-place at Hengqin campus of the University of Macau. The match began with fast breaks by MUST players; Lu Guanliang took a big lead and played an 8:0 small climax. However, players of the Institute for Tourism Studies kept calm and gradually narrowed the gap by counterattacks, although they changed tactics but MUST made reactive responses accordingly and got a huge lead at the first half.  At the second half, MUST with a new squad led by vice-captain Xu Chenyu became increasingly brave, they used physical power, changed plays and finally teammated the Institute for Tourism Studies and stood third in 62: 45.

 

With the slogan of “friendship first, competition second”, all teams performed well, which not only strengthened friendships with other universities but represented MUST students’ optimistic and vigorous attitudes as well as their spirit of unity and cooperation.
