On April 25, 2015, MUST Debating Team held the 1st friendly debating competition, which was sponsored and supported by MUST Foundation and President’s Office. Cantonese debaters from MUST and University of Macau launched a fierce argument under the motion of “The more disordered, the more wonderful the world will be”. The competition was just like a war of words, both For and Against refuted back and forth, it was so wonderful that both judges and audience couldn’t help marveling at that.
In this friendly debating competition, MUST as the For party sent Huang Jiawei, Luo Hongyu, Yao Jiaqi and Wang Jieyu to combat with members from University of Macau including He Huixian, Oda Yaojia, Li Zian and Chen Jianqi. Meanwhile, MUST as the host also invited Liu Zhiheng Macau senior debater and Li Qi the counselor of Macau Youth Debate Open to be judges. Mr. Liu spoke highly of this competition and said that both sides were brave enough to attack their rivals instead of simply self defense, which made the competition much funny, while Ms Li Qi considerately made individual comments on each debater and pointed out the strength and weakness, which benefited those eight debaters a lot. Finally, the two judges bestowed the "Best Debater" on Li Zian the second debater in opposition side in recognition of his outstanding performance.
Though this friendly debate was held on a small scale, it was significant. Hope has it that this activity will become even better in the future and MUST debating team can perform more and more wonderfully.
