WONG, Eddie Yue Kai, Doctor of Science honoris causa


Mr. WONG, Eddie Yue Kai is currently Managing Director of Eddie Wong & Associates Limited, Macao, and Member of the Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He also serves as President of the Central Committee of Macau Red Cross and Member of the Red Cross Society of China. Professionally, he’s had a very successful career in architecture, but what is more worth admiring has been his patriotism toward his homeland and home country and his charitable actions in philanthropy.

Mr. WONG was born in Macao, and his family originally came from Zhongshan, Guangdong. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin, U.S.A., in 1975. He has practiced in Macao as a Registered Architect since 1978, and in the same year he founded the Eddie Wong Arquitecto. He was President of the Architects Association of Macau, President of the World Association of Chinese Architects, and Member of the Preparatory Committee for the Macao Special Administrative Region, the 3rd and 4th Executive Council of Macao, the Prosecutors’ Committee of the Macao S.A.R., the Advisory Committee for Culture, and the Advisory Committee for the Renewal of Old Districts, having made extraordinary contributions to the architecture cause and societal development.

As President of the Central Committee of Macau Red Cross, Mr. WONG is fully dedicated to charitable causes. In light of the mission, “to strive to prevent and alleviate human suffering”, he led the Macau Red Cross and engaged in a series of humanistic rescues, community causes, and aids of various natures. He’s also made multiple donations and assistances to poverty or disaster stricken areas of China through the Red Cross Society of China.

Born and rooted in Macao, Mr. WONG has also given considerable care to Macao’s higher education cause. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau Institute of Management, and is now member of the Trust Committee of the M.U.S.T. Foundation, and Vice Chairman of the University Council of M.U.S.T.
