He is down-to-earth. Coming from the magnificent Jingangshan Mountain, he has been devoting himself, in remote mountains and deep tunnels, to locating mineral resources that are urgently needed by our country. Having worked on earth sciences for ten years, he has advanced the theory of “the non-uniformity of primeval earth and the earth’s evolution”, exploring the cause-effect relationship between the formation of minerals and their structural transformation, which has made a major contribution to the construction of new China.

He is also a man who researches into the heavens. Delving into studies of meteorites, lunar rocks, cosmic dust and other extra-terrestrial materials, he has stimulated the brand-new sphere of comparative planetology and celestial chemistry, which broadens our horizons of the universe, and wins honor to China in the international academic world. It has also qualified him as a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Third-world Academy of Sciences and the International Academy of Astronautics.

Moreover, he is a man bold enough to reach the moon. In order to realize the ancient Chinese dream of flying to the heavens, he has proposed the “Moon Landing” project very forcefully, and has been responsible for the “Chang’E Project” as its chief scientist. With “Chang’E I” having orbited around the moon successfully, he visualized with great joy that the day when the Chinese people will land on the moon is not far away!
