Hoi Sai Iun, Doctor of Business Administration honoris causa

Mr. Hoi Sai Iun was attached to Macao as early as 1976 when he was appointed an adviser to the Macao Portuguese government and he was later elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly. In his 30 years of public service, he has been taking an active role in participating in political activities and arguing for the public’s requests and benefits. He keeps an open mind on different opinions and takes a macro bird’s eye view when solving problems, with attention to the most suitable timing. With his great effort, the tensions in many social conflicts have been eased effectively, and this has created favorable conditions for Macao’s smooth return to the motherland and its following rapid development.

He is a patriotic entrepreneur who loves his motherland, loves Macao, and loves his hometown. He is also an enthusiast for social activities, and has made great contributions to Macao and his hometown: he is the founder of the Native Chaozhou (Teochew) Association Macao, President of the Board of Directors of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the standing committee of the Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society, and Vice-president of the Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association. In light of his great achievements in serving Macao and promoting the China-Portugal friendship, he was granted a national “medal of commerce achievement for a senior officer” by the Portuguese President in June of 1996, the “medal of bravery” by the Macao government in June of 1998, the “Golden-lotus Medal of Honor” by the Macau SAR government in 2003, and the supreme “Big Lotus Medal of honor” in 2010.

We are gathered today to witness a happy moment for Mr. Hoi Sai Iun, for he is going to add one more outstanding honor to his collection of honors – the honorary doctor’s degree from MUST.
