On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of MUST, Professor Catherine Cheung, the Associate Dean of SHTM (School of Hotel & Tourism Management) of Hong Kong Polytechnic University was invited to give a lecture entitled “Bamboo leadership – What we can learn from Chinese Hospitality Leadership” for students of FHTM and received a warm welcome from Ms. Chu Oi Mei and faculty professors on March 16th , 2018. This seminar was sponsored by Macao Foundation.
In the lecture, Professor Cheung focused on Chinese Hospitality leadership by introducing what Bamboo leadership was and what common characteristics of Chinese Hospitality leaders were. Prof. Cheung pointed out innovation and entrepreneurial spirits were two critical traits for leaders and discussed four aspects of “Transformational Leaders” for students who were actively interacted with. In addition, she thought the opportunities and challenges were existing simultaneously. The hotel brand building, the shortage of professionals, the developing technology and planning rationality were regarded as the major challenges of hospitality industry. Afterwards, Prof. Cheung recommended four master programs of SHTM, offering a good chance for students who were interested in furthering their education to know the programs and field trips in three different districts.
This seminar has deepened students’ understanding of Chinese hospitality leadership and aroused students’ great interest in SHTM programs.
