Undergraduate Students from M.U.S.T. Won the Honorable Mention at the 39th Mathematical Contest in Modeling

Recently, the results of the 39th Mathematical Contest in Modeling were announced. With the guidance of Professor Cai Zhanchuan, the undergraduate students Yu Ziqiao, Zhu Yingqi and Tang Qingfeng, from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering of M.U.S.T., won the Honorable Mention (the Second Prize). A total of 20,858 teams from more than 20 countries and regions including the United States, Britain, Germany, Canada, Australia and others participated in the competition. The School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering of M.U.S.T., established a mathematical modeling guidance team, providing students with specialized training lectures and pre-competition guidance.

The Mathematical Contest in Modeling/Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) is an international competition with a long history and a large influence. It was initiated by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application (COMAP) in 1985 and has been held for 39 sessions. Its purpose is to provide college students with opportunities to participate in team cooperation, exercise their ability to analyze problems, solve problems, and write. The competition requires a team with three undergraduate students to complete all the work, from model establishing, solving, verifying to paper writing for a specified problem within four days. The content of the competition covers many fields such as economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, and security. It fully reflects the ability and team spirit of the participants to investigate and solve problems.
