[News] Sébastien Lafrance delivers a guest lecture on 'Practicing Criminal Law in the Canadian Arctic'

Sébastien Lafrance, Crown Counsel of the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, delivered a guest lecture on 'Practicing Criminal Law in the Canadian Arctic' on 28 October 2016. The lecture was attended by Professor Zeng Huaqun (Dean of the MUST Faculty of Law), Assistant Professor Lin Wei-Chung, Assistant Professor Zhao Yuan and postgraduate students.

Mr. Lafrance firstly introduced Canada's System of Justice, and then analysed the social and criminal issues arising from the displacement of indigenous Indian and Inuit by the Canadian Government. Lafrance emphasised the importance of respect for cultural differences and the role of restorative justice in dealing with criminal activities conducted by aboriginal offenders.
