The delegation was cordially received by the Secretary for Security, Mr. Wong Sio Chak, and the Director of the General Police Bureau, Mr. Leong Man Cheong.

Vice President Pang Chuan introduced that the Faculty of Law of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) was established in March 2000 and is one of the four founding faculties of the University. In the past 20 years, it has always followed the principle of “one country, two systems”, formed unique teaching and research characteristics in the historical context of multiculturalism and the trend of inter-regional legal study, nurtured a large number of local and inter-regional legal talents, and formed a large team of outstanding alumni. In response to the great expectations of our graduates to strengthen their ties with the Faculty, the Law Faculty requested the approval of the University General Alumni Association to establish the branch tied to the Law Faculty in April this year. After more than half a year of preparation, the constitution of the Alumni Association was published in the Macau SAR Gazette on August 5, 2020, and the establishment and inauguration ceremony of the first Board of Directors and Supervisors was held on October 28, 2020.

Dean of the Law Faculty, Professor Fang Quan, introduced that the faculty is currently offering programs in all levels of undergraduate, master and doctor degrees. The Law Faculty has accumulated sufficient research resources and talents and operates multiple research centers. It has distinguished characteristics, especially the undergraduate program which offers parallel courses of Macao Law and Chinese Mainland Law and pays special attention to build foundational legal theories and international legal knowledge in students’ curriculum. Because of all these advantages, more talented and excellent alumni have been emerging during the recent years.

Secretary Wong Sio Chak firstly congratulated on the establishment of the MUST Faculty of Law Alumni Association. He said that he had taught at the Faculty of Law during her early years, and he had a special connection with the Faculty of Law. He also acknowledged that the Law Faculty had achieved greatly while overcoming many challenges and difficulties on the way. He pointed out that the current era of Macau’s integration into the overall development of the country and its active participation in the development and construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is perfectly in line with the Law Faculty’s teaching and research focus on “inter-regional legal study” and its mission to “nurture local and inter-regional legal talents”. The Law Faculty and its Alumni Association should give full play to their advantages and contribute to the legal research and development at the inter-regional level.

President Lao Chak Kuong said that the Alumni Association will use the platform of the Alumni Association to unite alumni and strengthen the ties between alumni and the University and the Law Faculty. The Alumni Association will focus its work on contributing to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and promoting the research of the Basic Law.
