The Faculty of Law Successfully Held Two Orientation Workshops of Guidance on Law Studies for Postgraduates

To help new postgraduates better acclimatize themselves to the study and life in the MUST, the Faculty of Law successfully held two orientation workshops online, with the themes of “ Guidelines of Courses and Introduction of Competitions and Activities” and “ the Door to Research on Law”. More than one hundred new students attended the activities.

The Workshop “ Guidelines of Courses and Introduction of Competitions and Activities” was held at 14:30 on 10th September 2021. Director of Postgraduate Degree Programme Mou Xiao Bo hosted the seminar and Assistant Professor Peng Yun Peng and Wang Jia gave lectures. Assistant Professor Peng introduced the participation and preparation mechanism of the study club of Simulation Negotiation of Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions in the Asia-Pacific Region. Assistant Professor Wang introduced other study clubs for moot court on international laws, including International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition (ICCMCC), The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (Jessup), Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot (FDI Moot). The two teachers said that legal affairs were always complicated and interdisciplinary. These study clubs would offer opportunities for students to practically solve problems with what they learned. Apart from grasping the basic principles of international laws, students could also flexibly apply international judicial procedures international investment, and other fields, enhancing their practical skills. These activities could also promote students’ ability of self-control and flexibility, helping them to better deal with studying and working in the future.

The workshop “the Door to Research on Law” was held online at 15:00 on 12th September 2021. Assistant Professor Chen Bo hosted the seminar and Assistant Professor Zhong Wen Cai gave a lecture, Director of Postgraduate Degree Programme Mou Xiao Bo presented the activity. Assistant Professor Zhong encouraged students to identify their own career orientation and try their best to improve their foreign language with global vision and grasp good learning methods, therefore, they could open the door to research on laws, discover and fulfill themselves in legal research. He also shared how to write a literature review with his own experience. In the last step, the teachers answered questions raised by students online and the activity s ended in a lively atmosphere.
