Hosted by the Faculty of Law, M.U.S.T and China Mergers& Acquisitions Association and co-organized by the School of Law, National Chengchi University(Taiwan Province of China), the Draw Ceremony of the 10th Mooting Competition of Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions in the Asia-Pacific Region was held in the Faculty of Law, M.U.S.T and was broadcast live to all the teams through Zoom conference.
The competition attracted 16 teams appointed by Peking University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Nanjing University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University, Xiamen University, China University of Political Science and Law, National Chung Cheng University (Taiwan Province of China), Chinese Culture University (Taiwan Province of China), Soochow University (Taiwan Province of China), National Taiwan University (Taiwan Province of China), National Chengchi University (Taiwan Province of China), University of Macau and Macau University of Science and Technology. Eight rival teams of mooting negotiation for corporate M&A generated by drawing lots.
The competition consists of three stages. From March 9, 2022 to 2.p.m of April 2, 2022, all participants are required to write and submit letters of intent on M&A and abstracts of proposal, including analysis of the industry, structure of M&A, offer of M&A and analysis of synergy., e tc. in the first phase of M&A documents writing. From 2.p.m of April 2, 2022 to 12 noon of April 14, 2022, the eight rival teams will exchange documents and start to negotiate in the second phase of mooting negotiation. On April 15, 2022, the eight rival teams will simulate reporting procedure and result of the negotiation to the Board jointly and respectively ( succeed or fail) and will be inquired by the board in the third phase. The organizing committee will invite 14 professionals in investment strategy, finance and economics, law and other fields to take the post of judge for reviewing the written documents and inquiry reports. In the end, the Best Team Awards (champion and runner-up), the Best Legal Service Award, the Best Financial Counselor Award, the Best Industry Analyst Award, the Best M&A Proposal Award, the Best Performance Award(individual award) and the Best Team Member Award and other awards will be voted.
The Mooting Competition of Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions in the Asia-Pacific Region is an annual event in the region, which was launched by School of Law, National Chengchi University(Taiwan Province of China) and School of Law, Tsinghua University in 2010. Nine sessions have been held so far. The Mooting Competition of Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions aims to establish a platform for enhancing exchanges between higher education institutions in the Mainland, Taiwan Province of China, Hong Kong S.A.R and Macao S.A.R and conversations between the business industry and academic field in the Mainland and Taiwan Province of China. As a regional and interdisciplinary platform, the competition offers precious opportunities for students to learn from seniors of M&A and nurture more talents on M&A for the Asia-Pacific region and the whole world.
The Faculty of Law, M.U.S.T has organized participating teams to join in the competition for three consecutive years and won Best Document Writing Awards for three times and a Best Industry Analyst Award , which has been well received. Taking the opportunity to join in the competition, the Faculty of Law sets up the elective course of “Practical Study of Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions”with the aim to urge students to study understand the negotiation of international and cross-border corporate M&A negotiation and relevant financial and legal knowledge and enhance the development of teaching and academic research on law and finance.
